This Humpback maintained a flukes-up pose for a considerable time in Moreton Bay, looking a little like a marine marker, echoed by the landscape features on the distant shore.

During my last trip to Maui, I took quite a few whale shots. I took this photo while observing the antics of a competition pod of males all competing for the the attention of a nearby female whale. As one might expect, the males try to show how macho they are through demonstrations of physical strength and agility. This involves leaping into the air, colliding with other males, and fin and tail slapping. The photo was taken in February 2014. Enjoy.

so we went 'dolphin watching' this one day in september. we got on a little boat and what followed was a rollercoaster-like ride in a little speedy boat on the atlantic ocean. we were out there for about an hour and i had given up my hopes of actually seeing even a glimpse of these amazing creatures. and then, all of a sudden, there they were. they were only there for a few minutes but they swam right next to our boat. it was amazing. i couldn't believe my eyes and still get emotional just thinking about this. i don't even know why but it was just magical. earlier that day, our waitress at the hotel saw that i had a flyer for a dolphin watching tour in my hand and told me that it was warm and sunny and not windy at all, so "It's the perfect day to go and do this!!". when we went for breakfast the next morning, i told her that we saw them and she said "wasn't it the greatest thing ever? once you see them you are so full of life. you will never forget this, you will never forget this day for the rest of your life." my eyes started watering up a little bit, i thought it wasn't noticeable. she said "you almost start crying now. you're just like me. you will never forget this." <3

Trua finally got his toy from grandpa.

I photographed this common short-beaked dolphin in the waters off Sable Island riding the bow waves of our crab boat . These marine mammals swim at speeds up to 60 km/hr, so you can imagine the difficulty getting the shot from a tossing deck.

Mother dolphin and her cub were in a playful mood near Clearwater Beach, FL.
