Received my certificate today, so it's now official. Feeling quite proud.

I'd urge anyone to have a go at getting a distinction. If you belong to a camera club then you can benefit from coaching and general support. The RPS are also helpful and arrange advisory sessions to give you valuable feedback before you submit a portfolio.

I don't have much in the way of service history with my Rover, but pleasingly I do have every MOT certificate from it's first one which was done in February 2000, 18 months after the car was first registered, but 5 years after it was actually made.

It appears to have done between 12-17k per year between 2000 and 2005, and then the mileage seems to fall every year thereafter. It's only done 12k miles in the past 10 years.

The Tax discs seem to indicate that the car spent the first 9 or so years in/around the Birmingham area, before heading north to Durham in late 2007, where it has remained until yesterday when I brought it back down the country slightly to Lancashire.

Here is the third scan and retouch that relates a lot of United States history that I found. Was this the impetus that caused the family to relocate to our Colorado area? By 1877, the original pesky owners of the land were largely beat back and was now safe for settlement and personal use except for mineral exploiters under-cutting beneath your land and creating a sink hole. Remember that oil exploration was in its infancy.

I found this certificate some time back and scanned and retouched it then. So far, I have some weeks packed into the project and the collection has not shrunk that much. I wonder why the family thinks that I owe them so much difficult retouching and output labor?

I did my best to transcribe the text for a comment. It should be very close; I Googled an example of this text but found none and the two last names for confirmation. It seems the award amounted to 80 acres instead of the usual 40. Did William J. and son Arnette account for that? Kiteley and Flansberg were hitched in Wisconsin. It seems unlikely as there is no data nor presence for Arnette I found. Maybe the gummint thought this land was worth 1/2 as much but perhaps it was in lieu of the storied mule being tendered.

I have read that U.S. Grant did tour the state during the mining days and went into sequestration with the Irwin Men's Club (Irwin, Colorado was a short lived mining camp of perhaps 5000) to discuss who could toss more likker back. I'd have to research to see who actually won but Grant probably came out well.

1917 Lithograph certificate by H.A. Thomas & Wylie (#51212) certifying Guilford's Lucy F. Chittenden as a "...member of the American Flag House and Betsey Ross Memorial Association and a subscriber to the Endowment Fund for the preservation of the Historic House in which the First Flag of the United States of America was made and for the erection of a National Memorial in honor of Betsey Ross. The names of all the Subscribers are placed on the Roll of Hono and preserved in the Archives of the Association."

The document is finely printed in formal B&W script with a fine color image (Chas. H. Weisgerber's painting "Birth of Our Nation's Flag,") of Betsey displaying the flag to Washington, George Ross & Robert Morris. There is a red seal of the organization and printed signatures of the organization's President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. To raise funds to purchase Ross's house (at 239 or 241 Arch St. in Philadelphia), the organization sold these ten-cent subscriptions to the American Flag House and Memorial Association. See also americancenturies.mass.edu/collection/itempage.jsp?itemid... and historicphiladelphia.org/stories/how-the-betsy-ross-house....

This document is in very poor condition with frayed borders, water damage, tears and creases, ~13.25" X 11".

Hoooooooooly hell, that water was absolutely freezing!!!

I got an award :-) Haven't received a certificate since I graduated - so it is nice to actually get 'a thing'.

And it was for my work on libraries - so doubly nice.

Built in 1876 and now referred to as the Randolph Minor Hall of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

"Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is a public research university in Richmond, Virginia. VCU was founded in 1838 as the medical department of Hampden–Sydney College, becoming the Medical College of Virginia in 1854. In 1968, the Virginia General Assembly merged MCV with the Richmond Professional Institute, founded in 1917, to create Virginia Commonwealth University. In 2022, more than 28,000 students pursued 217 degree and certificate programs through VCU's 11 schools and three colleges. The VCU Health System supports the university's health care education, research, and patient care mission.

VCU had a record $405 million in sponsored research funding in the fiscal year 2022 and is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity". A broad array of university-approved centers and institutes of excellence support the university's research mission, involving faculty from multiple disciplines in the humanities, public policy, biotechnology and health care. Twenty-eight graduate and first-professional programs are ranked by U.S. News & World Report as among the best in the country. VCU's athletic teams compete in NCAA Division I and are collectively known as the VCU Rams. They are members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. The VCU campus includes historic buildings such as the Ginter House, now used by the school's provost.

Richmond (/ˈrɪtʃmənd/) is the capital city of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. It is the center of the Richmond Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Greater Richmond Region. Richmond was incorporated in 1742 and has been an independent city since 1871. At the 2010 census, the city's population was 204,214; in 2020, the population had grown to 226,610, making Richmond the fourth-most populous city in Virginia. The Richmond Metropolitan Area has a population of 1,260,029, the third-most populous metro in the state.

Richmond is at the fall line of the James River, 44 mi (71 km) west of Williamsburg, 66 mi (106 km) east of Charlottesville, 91 mi (146 km) east of Lynchburg and 92 mi (148 km) south of Washington, D.C. Surrounded by Henrico and Chesterfield counties, the city is at the intersections of Interstate 95 and Interstate 64 and encircled by Interstate 295, Virginia State Route 150 and Virginia State Route 288. Major suburbs include Midlothian to the southwest, Chesterfield to the south, Varina to the southeast, Sandston to the east, Glen Allen to the north and west, Short Pump to the west and Mechanicsville to the northeast.

The site of Richmond had been an important village of the Powhatan Confederacy, and was briefly settled by English colonists from Jamestown from 1609 to 1611. The present city of Richmond was founded in 1737. It became the capital of the Colony and Dominion of Virginia in 1780, replacing Williamsburg. During the Revolutionary War period, several notable events occurred in the city, including Patrick Henry's "Give me liberty, or give me death!" speech in 1775 at St. John's Church, and the passage of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom written by Thomas Jefferson. During the American Civil War, Richmond was the capital of the Confederacy. It entered the 20th century with one of the world's first successful electric streetcar systems. The Jackson Ward neighborhood is a traditional hub of African-American commerce and culture.

Richmond's economy is primarily driven by law, finance, and government, with federal, state, and local governmental agencies, as well as notable legal and banking firms in the downtown area. The city is home to both a U.S. Court of Appeals, one of 13 such courts, and a Federal Reserve Bank, one of 12 such banks. There are several Fortune 500 companies headquartered in the city including: Dominion Energy, WestRock, Performance Food Group, CarMax, ARKO, and Altria with others, such as Markel, in the metropolitan area.

The city continues to struggle with exceptionally high rates of murder and violent crime, making it one of the most dangerous cities in the United States." - info from Wikipedia.

The fall of 2022 I did my 3rd major cycling tour. I began my adventure in Montreal, Canada and finished in Savannah, GA. This tour took me through the oldest parts of Quebec and the 13 original US states. During this adventure I cycled 7,126 km over the course of 2.5 months and took more than 68,000 photos. As with my previous tours, a major focus was to photograph historic architecture.
