The great thing about The Royal Alcazars of Seville that it is actually still in use by the Spanish King and completely authentic. Stroll in the Alcázar wonderfully through the beautiful landscaped gardens, past all those centuries-old trees, colorful flowers, stately statues, idyllic fountains and courtyards after you have admired the impressive palace. The first stones were laid by the Visigoths, then the Romans, but the Moors then made it really big and beautiful. After the conquest of the Moors by the Catholic Kings in the 14th century, the palace was further expanded, entirely in Mudéjar style The result of the merger of two traditions namely the Islam tradition on the one hand and the Christian tradition on the other. tradition on the other.

The Cathedral of Seville was built on the site of the Moorish Mosque of the Almohad. This mosque was conquered from the Moors in 1248 and used as a cathedral. In the 13th century this mosque was demolished on the Patio de los Naranjos - the orange square of which, the minaret of the mosque, the old Giralda tower is still a remnant. In the cathedral you can admire a treasure room, the tomb of Columbus and the main chapel. The most spectacular part of the interior is undoubtedly the golden main altarpiece in the main chapel. This magnificent masterpiece was designed by the Flemish craftsman Pierre Dancart who worked for forty-four years on the reliefs, starting in 1482. Op de gevel bevinden zich vijftig wandschilderingen die naar de vijftig Spaanse provincies verwijzen. Ervoor bevinden zich bankjes, waar gretig gebruik van wordt gemaakt. De Plaza de España is een klassieke plek om op zondag met de familie heen te gaan. Het María Luisa-park herbergt een van zijn meest verborgen hoeken, het beeld ‘Glorieta de Becquer’, een spectaculaire set van liefde. Een plek om te ontspannen, in de zon zitten of genieten van schaduw. Wat betreft flora, beschikt het park over tal van prachtige oude bomen die al honderden jaren oud zijn. Designed and built in 1925 by McWethy & Greenleaf for Robert Howden and his architectural tile shop in a Spanish Baroque / Moorish / Arts & Crafts style. The tile company moved to Piedmont in 1927 but today Howden Building tenant Spice Monkey Cafe has tiled walls, stairs, and a fireplace that were part of the original Howden tile show room.

This week’s choices were toxic black mold, a sharp can top from the top side, and this minimal toe-stubbing possibility. Thought I’d go with the least hazardous choice….

Este painel de azulejos de padrão geométrico-vegetalista, datado entre 1590 e 1620 e atualmente no Museu Nacional do Azulejo em Lisboa, é um exemplo da produção portuguesa do final do século XVI e início do XVII. Composto por módulos repetidos de motivos florais estilizados em azul sobre fundo branco, enquadrados por uma trama geométrica em amarelo ocre, o desenho reflete influências mudéjares e renascentistas, evidenciando a continuidade da tradição decorativa hispano-mourisca em Portugal. Os azulejos de padrão eram frequentemente utilizados no revestimento integral de paredes de igrejas e palácios, criando autênticos “tapetes” cerâmicos e desempenhando funções decorativas e simbólicas. A paleta cromática, limitada ao azul, amarelo e branco, é característica da produção portuguesa anterior à influência holandesa, afirmando-se como um elemento estruturante da arquitetura portuguesa e um testemunho da criatividade das olarias da época.
This panel of tiles with a geometric-vegetalist pattern, dated between 1590 and 1620 and currently in the National Tile Museum in Lisbon, is an example of Portuguese production of the late 16th and early 17th centuries. Composed of repeated modules of stylized floral motifs in blue on a white background, framed by a geometric pattern in ocher yellow, the design reflects Mudejar and Renaissance influences, showing the continuity of the Hispano-Moorish decorative tradition in Portugal. Patterned tiles were often used in the integral coating of church and palace walls, creating authentic ceramic “carpets” and performing decorative and symbolic functions. The chromatic palette, limited to blue, yellow and white, is characteristic of Portuguese production prior to the Dutch influence, establishing itself as a structuring element of Portuguese architecture and a testimony to the creativity of the potteries of the time.

The Cathedral of Seville was built on the site of the Moorish Mosque of the Almohad. This mosque was conquered from the Moors in 1248 and used as a cathedral. In the 13th century this mosque was demolished on the Patio de los Naranjos - the orange square of which, the minaret of the mosque, the old Giralda tower is still a remnant. In the cathedral you can admire a treasure room, the tomb of Columbus and the royal chapel. It is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. From the Giralda tower you have a beautiful view of the city of Seville.

This was requested by my daughter, Heather..it has many meanings. Mosaiced wth broken china, millefiori, stained glass, ceramic crosses, copper ornament, glass round globs, mirrors and lots of love. The base is an old cabinet door and I used charcoal grout...mixed with a colorant into white sounded grout!

In the 13th century this mosque was demolished on the Patio de los Naranjos - the orange square of which, the minaret of the mosque, the old Giralda tower is still a remnant. In the cathedral you can admire a treasure room, the tomb of Columbus and the main chapel. The most spectacular part of the interior is undoubtedly the golden main altarpiece in the main chapel. This magnificent masterpiece was designed by the Flemish craftsman Pierre Dancart who worked for forty-four years on the reliefs, starting in 1482. The altarpiece was finally finished in 1564 with help from other artists. Large iron grilles, forged between 1518 and 1532, separate visitors from the altarpiece. It is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world.

There are fifty murals on the façade that refer to the fifty Spanish provinces. In front of it are benches, which are eagerly used.
