Hamburg Central Station is one of the most important railway hubs in Germany; With 537,000 passengers per day in 2019, it is the busiest long-distance train station of Deutsche Bahn and the busiest train station in Europe after Paris-Nord. The opening was celebrated in 1908.
The Antwerp Central Station, also known as Middenstatie (Middle station) or Spoorwegkathedraal (Railroad Cathedral), was first used in 1905. The structure is made up from a steel platform covering and a stone station building in an eclectic style. Recently, the station was completely renovated and in 2007 a tunnel underneath the station and a part of Antwerp was opened, reverting the station’s status as a terminus where are all trains have to turn back. In 2009, the American magazine Newsweek chose the Antwerp Central Station as the fourth most beautiful train station in the world.

Driving south on Highway 1, the vista south opens up just after Big Sur. I loved the clouds and mist over the Santa Lucia Mountains.
Hope you have a good week. Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for all of your kind comments -- I appreciate them all.

The scent of freshly cut pulpwood hangs in the muggy northern air at Mead, Ont., as Canadian National SD70M-2 8841 eases down a rickety backtrack to service the last on-line customer along the former Algoma Central Railway.
Reflection of the entrance to the Adelaide Central Plaza in the stainless steel sculpture (aptly named Malls Balls) of two balls, one balanced on top of the other.
It is situated in the middle of Rundle Mall -- the main city shopping mall, with wide paved street filled with trees, lamp posts, benches, buskers, and the occassional bike trailer selling food.
Located at the corner of O’Connell Street and Abbey Street, the Grand Central Café Bar is located in a genuinely grand central site, but doesn’t have a long history. It links what were two premises, 10 and 11 O’Connell Street, which have been a single building since the Munster and Leinster Bank acquired No 11 in 1926. No 11 was rebuilt by Benjamin Ball in 1824.
The buildings were extensively damaged in the Easter Rising of 1916, primarily by a shell from HMS Helga. No 10 was refurbished as a result in 1917.
The buildings played an interesting rôle during the Easter Rising. They housed at that time the Irish School of Wireless Telegraphy. With all telephone lines in and out of the city cut by the British authorities, on the second day of the Rising, 25 April 1916, the rebels sent the following message in Morse code thanks to one of their number, David Bourke, who was proficient in the art of telegraphy: “Irish Republic declared in Dublin today. Irish troops have captured city and are in full possession. Enemy cannot move in city. The whole country rising.”
Ships did receive the message and relayed it to the international press, although three days later the Rising would be crushed.

While Canadian National cowls still operate on this line, they're not as cool as these were.
