✨ Cosmic Beauty: NGC 3718 & Hickson 56 ✨

With my setup – Askar APO185, QHY268m & EQ8-R – I captured the fascinating galaxy NGC 3718 along with the compact galaxy group Hickson 56.

🔭 NGC 3718 is a barred spiral galaxy with a uniquely distorted dust lane stretching across its core. It belongs to the category of polar ring galaxies and lies approximately 47 million light-years away in the Ursa Major constellation.

🌌 Close by is Hickson 56, a compact group of five interacting galaxies. This group is about seven times farther away than NGC 3718 and is a stunning example of gravitational interactions in the universe.

This image not only highlights these remarkable objects but also showcases numerous distant galaxies in the background—a true window into the depths of space!

"On a warm summer night in the Troodos Mountains of Cyprus, I had the chance to capture this mesmerizing view of the Milky Way. With no landscapes in sight, the focus is entirely on the stars and the endless beauty of the night sky. The galaxy seemed so vivid and alive, like a cosmic painting spread across the heavens. It was one of those moments where you feel completely connected to the universe, surrounded by its timeless wonder. I hope this image inspires you to look up and marvel at the stars, just as I did."

Total Solar Eclipse of 22nd July, 2009 as viewed at Itanagar. Due to cloud obstruction, the view of total solar eclipse lasting about 3 minutes was blocked. However, the sun coming out after the total eclipse, could be watched here.

First attempt at capturing soap film patterns and colours - prompted by an article in the Feb 2012 edition of Practical Photography.

Wire loop used to hold a soapy film (Fairy Liquid and water mix) - held at an angle to the camera lens and lit with a 40w incandescent houshold bulb.

Will have to re-visit this as I'm not overly happy with the results.

Total Solar Eclipse on 22nd July 2009 was felt at Itanagar,( Arunachal Pradesh) too. There was cloud formation in the morning, so the view was not clear in the beginning. So the 3 minute long total solar eclipse could not be viewed properly here. However just after the total eclipse, the cloud started to disperse and could view sun coming out of the eclipse.

A single streetlamp flickers to life against the fading sky, caught between the last light of day and the deepening night. A quiet, fleeting moment where artificial glow meets the cosmos.
