Well apparently Baily doesn't think the air conditioner is enough so she's enjoying the ceiling fan Hahahaha ;D

As our catamaran made its way slowly up the Rio Dulce, Guatemala towards Lake Izabal, the destination was for lunch at the Catamaran Island Hotel.

The hotel is set on a small island on the Río Dulce. The hotel’s grounds are lovely and are landscaped with a variety of tropical plants.

The hotel has 36 air-conditioned bungalows, most set over the water with views of the Río Dulce. There is a marina with 25 boat slips.

The hotel’s Catamaran Bar seen here is built over the water. iApparently the bar swell known locally for its margaritas and piña coladas.

The owner (a US citizen) built the hotel 50 years ago. Hs wife died recently and he wants to return to the USA. He is uncertain as to the future of the property. His son wants nothing to do with it. It's up for sale.

The property needs some TLC, our buffet lunch was so so.

I'm beginning to play with the cell phone (even though, tsk tsk, it's not an iPhone ...). Here's my offering for The August Break on this second day of the month. Looks like a lazy Sunday, doesn't it?

End of the first day of demolition of the First Reformed Church, Kalamazoo, Michigan. Only one and a half walls and part of the roof have been torn down; a ceilfing fan still clings to the remains of the ceiling. The First Baptist Church can be seen through the empty windows. The stained glass was removed weeks before the demolition began.

the Intercontinental Danang resort in Vietnam was very proud to claim that it has the longest bar counter / area in the world.

Woodland Park, CO - I used a Godox V1 flash to break up some of the shadows on the ceiling and kept the natural shadows in the room. To me, keeping the shadows feels warm and welcoming. When there are no shadows in an interior shot it tends to feel like a furnished laboratory, sterile and cold.

The house was fun to take pictures of and drive here to the mountains is always a pleasure. Not a bad way to spend a Thursday.

Colorado Springs, CO - This was a nice apartment complex on the north side of town. It was a fun challenge to light up the room, blending ambient with a touch of flash.

A Godox AD200 on a monopod was used, pointing up and back, hitting a 36" reflector at full power, some light window pulls, and another ambient image was blended to create the final image.

Created for a Gizmodo article about home automation.

Random Trivia: In order to make the minifig hold the remote, I had to carve off the lower part of his hand. Also... the liquid in the mug is actually beer.

Argent staring at me this afternoon. We took off the cats' tunics because it was warm (see next picture) and Argent took the opportunity to become very noisy and demanding - only cat snacks would calm her down...

Day 138 of 365 ... is looking up

Bakersfield, California 2014

We used to get on top of tables and hang our heads over the edge and look at the room upside down to imagine the ceiling was the floor and the floor was the ceiling.

Sometimes a change in perspective is exactly what one needs.

My Labor Day weekend project. This OH-6/AH-6/MH-6 is now properly hovering as it should be. This is the helicopter you often see fighting side-by-side with the Army Black Hawks. Check out Black Hawk Down if you have not seen it.

Any helicopter pilot will be able to tell you LTE, or Loss of Tailrotor Effectiveness, is a bad bad situation. In this case, the TR is simply napping. Mickey is still blissfully showing off his "look, mom, no hands!" A bad, bad, bad situation...

If you think this is crazy flying, see how this Little Bird used to hover without even turning the main rotor! Now that's pure magic.

EDITOR: All geeky pilot talks aside, I realized I needed to explain this setup a bit more. This is a GI Joe helicopter that I've had for a year or so now. I've had it on a stand, and also hung from the ceiling tiles at work. But this is my proudest display yet of mounting it on a ceiling fan. I would like to spray paint the fan to match the army green. But for now, that's not gonna happen.

Weight and Balance is a true issue here. If the cockpit is too heavy, the main rotor will strike the tailboom. General balancing is also not trivial. Right now the chopper also has a slight vibration with every revolution of the blades. Will work on it more next time.

Upcoming enhancements: navigation and search lights, working tail rotor, engine sound effect (how annoying will that be!).

#Ceiling - First, you have to decide where you will be putting this chandelier ceiling fan. The main consideration is whether inside or in a room that could be exposed to the elements, such as a patio or garage. The particular room in which the fan will can also affect your decision. For example, a modern...

My friend Matt and I stumbled upon this abandoned house in the Greenfield section of Pittsburgh. Inside it was clear that it had obviously suffered some sort of flood or torrential downpour, as the ceiling was cracked and there was lots of debris all over the place.

It looked like it was an old farm house from the 1800’s built into the side of a very steep hill, since it still had all of its original Victorian doors and windows, but the water had washed away all of the layers of wallpaper and paint that had just been crammed on top of one another. . . this house was the victim of every decorating fad from its inception to about the late seventies, which is how it was left. . . . not a nice way to go out I suppose.

As evidenced by this ceiling fan, the only thing in this room that wasn't covered with some sort of obnoxious pattern is the ceiling.

Two small white-faced owls rest on the blades of a stationary ceiling fan, one turned in profile and the other gazing straight into the camera. Their gray-and-white mottled plumage and bright, dark-rimmed faces stand out against the warm, textured backdrop of a thatched reed ceiling crossed by heavy wooden beams. Soft natural light filters in from below, giving the feathers and rafters a calm, almost intimate glow.

People come in to the office all the time and remark about how pleased they are that we preserved the "original architecture" and ceilings. Then we have to tell them that it's all a reproduction and the ceilings are faux tin vinyl sheets. They're always crushed a little and I'm a terrible person because I think it's funny. Not gonna stop, though.
