I call this "Ewarama" (or "Panoewa" if you prefer). I made a full circle one HERE but it was too tiny to be my photo of the day.

PS My photostream broke 4000 views today... (I don't know whether that's a lot or not, but I noticed some people were cheering when they got to 5000) so just throwing it out there :-)

Remark: M.T.C. is the acronym for Motor Transport Corps, United States Army, which had a training camp located at Valparaiso University during World War I. The majority of the members of this particular corps were discharged from service by mid-December 1918. The M.T.C. Mess Hall was also known on campus as the East Hall dining room.

East Hall was located southeast of the intersection of present day Greenwich Street and Short Street.

The following news item appeared in the February 28, 1918, issue of The Chesterton Tribune:

Local, Personal, Social

Valparaiso University is now making preparations for the instruction of from one thousand to two thousand soldiers for the U. S. government in the art of civil engineering. The deal has not yet been completed, but indications are that within a short time a large number of Uncle Sam's boys in the war service will be housed in Valparaiso to learn civil engineering to help them in their work in France. Already plans are being made at the various hall and rooming houses on the hill to take care of this additional lot of men.

For Our Daily Challenge 03/04/11, "In the Air". For some reason, all I could think about was my ceiling fan suspended above me in the living room, "whooshing" its blades through the air. I liked how the light seems to catch the air in this photo while the blades speed by.

I was able to go into this former home just hours before the tear down process began. Within a month there will just be an empty lot. I search out lonely locations, looking for the evidence of human existence.

I painted in it myself, first thing, before we even moved in. The walls, the ceiling, and the blades of the fan too.

A six-foot and twelve-foot ladder next to each other. This DIY project was a disaster. My shoulder injury made me lose feeling in my right hand. I had to stop after the first electrical test failed.

Day 229/366 - Ceiling fan

This is my first time shooting/editing hi-res photos taken with a DSLR (Nikon D3000 w/ Tamron 18-270 lens). Just started shooting with a DSLR and clearly I am experimenting with some editing software now.

a bar full of flickr folks, beautiful photos on the walls, tasty munchies & beer, and I'm sitting here taking a photo of the fan. I got no excuses.

This is what happens when water leaks from the ceiling for an extended time.

Max was jumping around and punched it by accident. It broke. Then Rush decided to rip it clean out of the ceiling. We figured perhaps we should try to fix it.

acrylics on ceiling fan blades.....

Rendered shot of the hand painted decorations above a ceiling fan at the Hotel California, San Francisco. Essentially, just the background colors have been removed.

These were neat.

A modern reconstruction of an old fashioned belt driven ceiling fan system. The leather belts crossed between rooms, with the one motor (on right) to run a total of six fans in two rooms.

I shot some AVI movies of this fan system. I wish there was a way to share one. The motion and subtle sounds of the belt drives are enchanting.

Some shelves are still stocked, I believe the thing atop the glass snuff glasses on the top shelf is a card of corncob pipes.

J.C. Brown General Store Since 1898

Has been closed nearly 40 years. Once it was West Huntsville's General Store. Cotton Mill workers and workers from Martin's Stove plant used to go there every friday to cash their paychecks and pick up a few groceries. Brown's carried groceries, ice cold bottled drinks like coke, R.C.'s and double colas, a meat department, hardware carrying everything from fireplace grates to nails and horseshoes, tabacco like cigars, cigarettes and snuff, they had a candy counter and just about anything anyone might need, so it seemed at the time anyway.

Today I drove by Brown's and found the door standing open, I had to stop. Mr. Brown's son was fixing a few things up and he allowed me to roam around and soak up a few memories and take a few pictures. It made my day, some stock still remains on shelves, the cashier's area is the same as I remembered it, the huge old safe is still there.. the many ceiling fans are quiet, no more workers line up on payday.. but it was nice to revisit yesterday.

#Ceiling - Ceiling fan with chandelier shades can reduce or illuminate the light provided by a lamp and ceiling fan should also reflect the atmosphere of the room provided. The fan blades that are already present should also coordinate with the new tones to create a pleasant impression in general.

The term...

Day 2 of the July Challenge.

This is a slightly long exposure of the light/fan in my bedroom. I was curious how the bright lights would affect the surrounding fan blades. It turns out that the light dies off pretty quick. At first, I converted this one to b/w, but it looked too flat and dull. Just this little bit of off-white color brought it back to life.
