Looking up again... on the eve of the Ascension. This is the barrel vaulted ceiling of the Chapter House of San Esteban, the Dominican priory in Salamanca, Spain. It was built in 1637 by Juan Moreno.

The Getty Villa is an art museum located about 19 miles (31 km) west of downtown Los Angeles, California. The site is built in the style of an ancient Roman palace. It houses ancient Greek, Roman and Etruscan art and artifacts dating from 6,500 BC to 400 AD. Items from after 400 AD are housed in a companion museum, the Getty Center, elsewhere in Los Angeles. I visited the Getty Villa on June 20, 2015.
The following pictures will show you, how the house with the blue door looks like inside. That is, you will see pictures of rubbish and dirt and decay and peeling paint and dirty window panes and dead flies. That´s, what most people don´t like - me included.
But you will also see, how rich people lived in a little town like Hildburghausen about 250 years ago, during Rococo period.
This is the ceiling of an old time saloon in Old Sacramento. It was very dark in there so I set the camera on its side on the table and pointed up. No flash used.

St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral was modeled after the 11th-century St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv, Ukraine. The parish, founded in 1906, quickly outgrew its small wooden church and commissioned Chicago architects Worthmann and Steinbach to construct a new one, completed in 1915 at 835 N. Oakley Blvd. The Neo-Byzantine, Cossack-Rococo church has 13 green cupolas topped with gold crosses representing Christ and his 12 apostles. St. Nicholas is also recognized for its magnificent icons, mosaics and stained glass windows, which were designed by Munich Studio of Chicago. A brilliant nine-tiered golden chandelier from Greece, lit with 480 lights, hangs from the highest dome in the center of the cathedral.

Some of the ceiling tiles have been removed in order for the construction team to have access to pipes and ductwork.
The ceiling was just beautiful, but unfortunately, this is the best I got through the dust, debris and murk.

Day 53 of 2015. I hosted a fishbowl conversation on the "bamboo ceiling" (the disproportionately smaller percentage of Asian-American leaders in corporate America), featuring my friend, Michael Lin, who is passionate and thoughtful about these issues.
About a dozen friends and colleagues representing many different sectors sacrificed their Sunday afternoon to explore questions around leadership and equity. It was a great conversation, but it was even more fun watching my friends from all different walks of life engaging with each other and finding simple ways to support each other.

Visitors who knew the room in the past will find it transformed when they visit again. A replica of the original stained-glass ceiling and banks of ornately trimmed ceiling coffers, new and restored furnishings, a fresh coat of paint, and re-creations of the original bronze wall sconces give the room a warm and elegant tone.
One the absolute highlights of my visit, St Edmund's church in Southwold is one of -the most impressive parish churches in the country. Arriving late in the afternoon I was delighted to find the church still open and lose myself in its beautiful interior.
The building dates from the latter half of the 15th century and makes an assertive statement, all grandeur and civic pride on a grand scale. Great Perpendicular traceried windows punctuate the walls of the entire edifice and make it gloriously light inside (mostly plain glazed as no original glass survives and wartime bombing removed what the Victorians put in).
Within the eye is drawn to the hammerbeam roof, adorned with angels (though all are partially or wholly Victorian replacements for the originals that were mutilated by iconoclasts). The chancel beyond (structurally continuous) adds to the effect further with its ceiling painted in a heavenly shade of blue. A canopy of honour is created between the two halves with painted figures of angels, overpainted by restorers but stylistically clearly close to the original work underneath.
This ceilure of course added emphasis to the rood, long since vanished alas but the screen that supported it remains and is the most remarkable feature of the church, extending its entire width (though the screens in the aisles could be identified as separate additions). All the lower panels retain their sequence of late medieval painted figures including an unusual sequence of angels, but sadly all have been defaced by iconoclasts, most likely during the reign of Edward VI when the biggest militant purge of church artwork occurred. The quality and richness of detail however is still apparent.
The choir retains some fine medieval carved woodwork including choir stalls (the misericords are disappointingly plain designs, but the armrests feature more lively details). Ornate screens enclose this space on either side.
This vast church requires time to soak up its atmosphere and bask in its beauties, it is one of the loveliest buildings one could hope to visit and will reward any visitor to this pictureque seaside town, being generally kept open and welcoming within reasonable hours.
