CC week 48 is Photowalk
Even though no trains can come to Eureka any more, tracks remain and so do warning signs for bicyclists. Some athletic soul decided to climb this sign to decorate it.
The catastrophic Christmas flood of 1964 destroyed 100 miles (160 km) of the railroad in Northern California, including three bridges over the Eel River, and permanently changed the topography of the area. The line was closed for 177 days while 850 men rebuilt the railroad through the Eel River canyon. The line was reopened on June 16, 1965. In the years following the 1964 flood, the rail line was less reliable due to increased landsliding in the Eel River Canyon; but freight traffic remained high until the 1970s, as improvements to US Highway 101 cut hauling times, making trucking competitive with the rail line.

CC week 10: visual tension
Something new since the last time I visited the mouth of the Elk River along Hikshari Trail in Eureka.
This weekend I poured a layer of resin over the whole mosaic to protect the different levels, and painted the sides and back to finish it off. It's ready to be delivered.
The layer of resin really took away the fracturing I had in the sky, which was nice. It did, however, take away the sparkly texture you get from tempered glass. It was necessary, though, because this mosaic is destined for a guest bathroom and I didn't want any harm to come to the mosaic from the moisture in the room.
