The catechism in pictures is an exceptional educational work in the teaching of the Catholic faith. The first edition in English dates from 1912, but it is a translated version of the original French edition of 1908. A nun signed this copy on July 31, 1938, 80 years ago! The catechism today is a very thick book that is not very convenient for reading. If this book is easy for a child to read, then you will enjoy seeing and reading its content. You can download it in full by accessing the album that contains all these images. Good reading !

Jessica (in the black coat) had her first evangelization encounter with this woman who was asking about who is able to receive communion. The woman was especially interested in what the Church has to say about homosexuals being able to receive communion. Regarding this question, the Catechism states (in paragraph 1385): “St. Paul urges us to examine our conscience: Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself. Anyone conscious of a grave sin must receive the sacrament of Reconciliation before coming to communion.”
In situations like these, people sometimes expect to hear that the Church is forbidding reception of Holy Communion as a way to “discriminate” against a group of people, in this case homosexuals. But that isn’t the point at all of St Paul’s warning and the prohibiting by the Church. Rather, the issue is a matter of having your soul properly disposed by being in a state of grace. Anyone who has committed a grave sin (mortal sin) has lost the sanctifying grace in their soul and they must go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation with a Priest (also known as Confession) to be restored back to communion with the Holy Trinity. Since homosexual acts are a grave sin, then this would be one (of many) sins that would prevent one from receiving communion. But even more widespread sins such as using contraception (even within marriage) are grave sins that also prevent a person from receiving Communion. And the Church is not doing this to be mean, but rather because the Church cares about our souls, so the Church doesn’t want us engaging in things, even good things, if our heart is not right with God first.
