Atomic Cowboy calendar girl
June 2009
The first few months I designed the event calendars for Atomic Cowboy, the bar's mascot, Rocket Girl, was always pretty cartoony. The rocket got left behind pretty quickly because, well, there are only so many things a girl can do with a rocket. (DON'T SAY IT. JUST DON'T.) Also, I had a great model for Rocket Girl but I did not have a model rocket of the proper size.
I'd been doing the illustrations in Photoshop, and when I finally broke down and got Illustrator I went crazy learning how to do stuff in it. (I still have plenty to learn.) I also lost access to my model and just adapted some gal from a photographer's website instead. It wasn't until I'd finished the calendar that I realized this month's girl wasn't cute and cartoony, but rather airbrushy and porny.
Management was divided regarding her merits.
Since the bar now has a burlesque troupe appearing monthly, each month's calendar cowgirl is going to be represented by a photo of one of the featured performers. I think this is a good thing.

Still trying out styles. I know the heads get larger and smaller and the bodies get more and less cartoonish. Started out trying to fit the characters into a Dan DeCarlo kind of mold for this series.

Viewed magnified: Mistakes are REALLY obvious.
It would be great if Katherine's face stayed the same shape.

I was really honored when the organizers of this event asked me to produce a flyer featuring a sexy nurse because they liked the sexy cowgirls from Atomic Cowboy's monthly event calendars. It was like having a reputation as a good pinup artist for about a week! :)

There are a few problems with this one, I know. I've figured out a few things but there's still some learning to do.
