Benjamin Rabier (1864, La Roche-sur-Yon - 1939, Faverolles) is a French illustrator, comic book artist and animator. He became famous for creating La vache qui rit, and is one of the precursors of animal comics. His work has inspired many other artists, notably Hergé and Edmond-François Calvo.
Rabier started to work as an illustrator for various newspapers after meeting Caran d'Ache. His most famous creations are Gideon the duck and the characters he drew for Le roman de Renart.(WIKIPEDIA)

The Mainzelmännchen (literally: the little men from the city of Mainz') are six cartoon characters named Anton, Berti, Conni, Det, Edi and Fritz, who serve as bumpers on ZDF television in Germany. Like dwarfs they carry a Phrygian cap (a soft conical cap with the top pulled forward). Their name goes back to the city of Mainz, the seat of the ZDF, and the The Heinzelmännchen (a race of creatures appearing in a tale connected with the city of Cologne in Germany). Inventor and first designer of the Mainzelmännchen was Wolf Gerlach. Since 1963, some 40,000 films have been made and each year there are at about 500 new cartoons. Each cartoon lasts about three seconds.

Jack Lemmon's character from How To Murder Your Wife was a cartoonist, and several strips were featured throughout, including this one. This one shows him slipping "goof balls" into his wife's drink, so that she might pass out, giving him time to enact his plan.

I drew this little guy instead of studying one night, when my brain insisted on a break. :) Now he lives on my shoulder. (See the "mid-life crisis" set...)
This was as near as I could get it to look like me - they didn't have the style of hair or beard that I wanted, but it's close enough of a caricature I suppose.
