A favorite bike ride for my son Martin and me, 3 miles from our South End home. The Boston Harbor Islands are in the distance.
The East fork of the carson river and its many fingers play a large role in Carson Valley. The sunset was rather spectacular this evening as well.
This Victorian mansion was completed for timber baron William Carson in 1886. it is now home of the Ingomar Club. I restored the photo recovered from a film roll taken in 1988 by my wife Diane.
The recent storms in the area put an end to almost all the fall color in the area, but there was still some yellow left in the river and water areas. This is the Carson River outside of Genoa. Genoa is the oldest settlement in Nevada, and it has a lot of history. This was a place for travelers on their way to California to resupply and take a break in the 1850s. Some of the original buildings are still standing and there is a museum where you can take a step back into the past. Worth a side trip if you get into the area.
This was created with Wombo-Dream with the shot of the Carson Mansion (link below) as my example.. Words and Art Style I do not remember..

Carson River is a little low but that is expected towards the end of summer. Hopefully with a good winter the flow will come back.
An old dam on the Carson River in Nevada. Complete with old machinery. A beautiful example of nature retaking the land.
Now this is something new for me.. I used Wombo Dream to make the first picture using the Carson Mansion as my starting picture.. Then Photoshop to resize it because it was shaped like a Cell Phone.. Using Photoshop crop with content aware enabled to change it to the landscape ... Then I used a MediaChance App to make it larger and Luminar 4 to give it the beautiful blue sky... I got a lot more windows than I started with but it was an interesting learning experience... Happy Windows Wednesday, Everybody!!

The wind kicked up as the sun hole closed, and before I knew it, my hat flew off my head and down below the "cliff" and cornices. I had no choice then, but to swing around the wash and retrieve the hat only to have to work my way back up to the ridgeline.
Stormont estate on a cold 'n frosty morning. The mist was a nice bonus...
This shot made Explore (#110) on 24th December, 2009 - thanks everybody! :-)
There are two sno parks at Carson Pass, Carson Pass and Meiss Meadow. Either one will take your breath away. Literally; I was taking five steps and then doubling over to catch my breath.
This was in the opposite direction of the sun setting, but it was still very pretty. All around me the entire Sierras seem to illuminate from it.

"We don't do reenactments - this is how we live," he told me. He has lived in teepees for years, though the one he had set up here was a Plains variety, not like the local Miwok. His group (about 20) teach about at the early years of California's white exploration and settlement, and they were at the fair to recruit a new generation of enthusiasts.
