My father and two of my brothers carved the Southern Tier panel above the Uncle Sam relief and just beside the deer mouse.
The beaver is the lead animal on this carousel. Each of the carousel animals and all of the artwork on this carousel was created by volunteer New York artists and craftspersons.
The trunk is up and I think that is supposed to mean good luck, although this carnival wasn't having much this weekend
The Herschell-Spillman Carousel at Greenfield Village was built in 1913 in Tonawanda, New York. The original location is unknown; it ran in Spokane, Washington, from 1923 until the 1950s. It is the only carousel that includes a frog.
