The Santa Cruz Beach/Boardwalk Merry-Go-Round ranks as one of the world's greatest examples of a traditional ride from the Golden Age of amusement devices. Built in 1910, by the master of them all - Charles I. D. Looff of Denmark - The Santa Cruz unit carries 62 hand carved horses and two Roman Chariots. 30 million people have ridden the machine in 54 years. As a museum piece, it would be impossible to reproduce today.

And the Seasons, they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return, we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round in the Circle Game
Joni Mitchell
