At Cardiff Castle, Cardiff, Wales

Visited the Winter Wonderland in Cardiff with our local photography group. Best I got was a reflection shot of the Ferris wheel.

Going through some of my older photos. I forgot how small and fun the Sony Rx100 IV is :)

Roath Park, Cardiff, 31 January and 3 February 2021. The north side balustrade of a bridge over the Roath Brook in Roath Park catches the wintry morning sun.

Sunset in Heath Parks, Cardiff. The sun has dipped well below the horizon, leaving the houses on King George V Drive North almost in silhouette.

Opened in November 2004 - just 33 months after construction had begun - the Millennium Centre is an imposing structure faced with metal, glass and Welsh slate.

A major venue for the performing arts, the centre houses the 1,900-seat Donald Gordon Theatre, the Weston Studio, rehearsals studios and several spaces to eat, drink, relax and watch free entertainment.

Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff Bay, docks and Tiger Bay, Cardiff, south Wales

Above the main entrance is a monumental inscription by Welsh writer Gwyneth Lewis, written in both Welsh and English.

The text is... In These Stones Horizons Sing

Sunset in Roath and Heath Parks, Cardiff. Looking towards the houses on King George V Avenue West.

SOMETHING DIFFERENT. After all the woodland shots, something different. An evening shot of Wales Millennium Centre.

Cardiff Walks. The Scott Monument in Roath Park Lake, Cardiff, commemorating Captain R F Scott, who sailed from Cardiff on his way to the Antarctic on an ill-fated expedition to reach the South Pole. The ship for the expedition that started in 1910 and ended in tragedy in March 2012 was in the 'Terra Nova', although the wind vane on top of the tower is in the shape of the 'Discovery', the ship used on Scott's voyages in 1901-1904.

This photo was taken at about 2040 (as the clock shows) on 3 August 2021, not long before sunset.

With the life of Transport for Wales’ class 150 Sprinters now almost at an end, this shot catches unit 150254 gracing Cardiff Central's platform 6 with the 7.41pm service to Rhymney (2R52) one Monday evening last October. A few late-travelling commuters are waiting to board.

Techie details: 1/500s @ F6.3 and 12,800 ISO

Looks best full-screen. Commenting off for this one, thanks.

Cardiff Castle

A Roman Garrison, a Norman Stronghold, a Gothic Fantasy.

Of all the castles in the UK, Cardiff Castle is one of the most amazing, with a story that spans over 2,000 years.

The Castle was first a Roman fort, then an impressive Norman castle and then an extraordinary Victorian Gothic fantasy palace.

The castle is now owned by the City of Cardiff after it was given to the people of Cardiff by the 5th Marquess of Bute in 1947.
