I felt sorry for this lion tamarin, knowing it would rather be in its home range of Bahia, Brazil, but that habitat has been steadily disappearing, cleared for agriculture, mining and other human endeavors. So, it's this small cubicle (or, possibly nothing) for this particular Golden-headed Lion Tamarin, seen at the Toledo Zoo, Toledo, Ohio.

I took the day and decided to have an adventure. Going to places I've never been before, seeing things I've never seen. Despite the fact I lived next to the WNC Nature Center for 15 years... until today I had never set foot on their property. I was excited getting ready, preparing all of my equipment. [You know, all of it except my camera strap frak..] The third enclosure I happened upon was the Cougar enclosure... I was excited to see the animal, truly....at first. They spent the entire time pacing the same twenty foot circle inside the pen, only stopping twice to check me out while I was wearing a Cougar face mask.... I didn't get those shots... Autofocus loves fences I found out.

This confiding Eurasian Lynx was quite happy for me to take plenty of shots as it posed on a log just a few metres away. This captive animal is part of a European breeding programme.

After a mostly dry February, El Nino is delivering a Pineapple Express, a moisture-laden series of storms coming from the Hawaiian Islands. This image is raindrops caught in a web.

I just hope that these strong storms do not create serious flooding and mudslides in the many burn areas throughout California and the Pacific Northwest.
