Story Behind The Frame:

I accepted a photo assignment last July to take a lifestyle/portraiture of a ballerina based in San Francisco. The concept entails incorporating one of the landmarks from her hometown as a background on the frame while performing one of her ballerina moves. My light setup was pretty simple--simple enough to make her well exposed on a very gloomy hazy San Francisco sundown. After all light and camera setup, I asked her to warm up and do one of ballerina moves that she's planning to do. At first, I expected a standing regular ballerina pose that I normally see in still pictures and TV. But to my amazement, she started jumping high and performed a very cool hang time ballerina move that caught the attention of every person on the set. I went back to my camera and dialed a setting enough to catch a movement of her descending on the frame, which was intended to put motion feel on the picture. I directed the ballerina to look at the lens while on hang time and express a confident look while on the air. After three shots, I got the money shot. By the way the picture here was one of the test shot for me to figure out the lighting. The actual ballerina shot can be seen on the home page of my website.

Funny thing I took this picture serveral months ago for the Fence Friday group but forgot about it or didn't think it was very interesting at the time but I am so glad I discovered this week when going thru my pictures and purging out the bad ones!

the Penghu Ocean Fireworks Festival (2009/5/2-5/30) takes place on the Siying Archway Bridge in the Kuanyin Pavilion Receational Area. this festival 2009 opened on May 2 with a spectacular fireworks show (PM08:30~08:45) lasting 15 minutes.
