Roman candlestand from the Ashmolean collection.

King Carloman of Bavaria (aka "Karlmann"), oldest son of Louis the German, had founded a collegiate church in Altoetting in 876. This church got destroyed by Hungarian troops in 917. The collegiate got refounded and the church got rebuilt later.

In 1499, just 10 years after the pilgrimage to Altoetting had started, the construction of the large Gothic collegiate church started, as it got necessary to offer more room for the thousends of pilgrims, that headed to Altoetting.

As this has been a collegiate it does have a cloister. The already existing cloister got the Gothic ceiling, when the church was built. - On the right large candlestands are waiting patiently for pious pilgrims. In early May only a few candles were burning.

Mom's candlestands

Dallas Museum of Fine Arts

Candlestand, c. 1830-1850, Margaret Goodgeon (American) decorator, pine and paper; made in Philadelphia area, decorated with silhouettes of dancers from around the world and farm animals, each figure cut from black paper and then applied to table top then varnished; furniture decorating frequently taught in late 18th and early 19th century female academies though examples are rare

The man eyes me suspiciously as he prepares to light his candle to add to those already burning on the fabulous stand. I am not sure if he is lighting his candle as an offering to the gods or to honour the legendary king Gorgasali, whose grave nearby is marked by this candle stand. I was enjoying photographing as long as there was no one around, but the moment this man came in, I decided to make an exit as I did not want to disturb his prayer and devotion by sticking a camera into his face. A blue wedding we decorated in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida.

We used staging backdrops draped with material then added string lighting behind it and also placed up-lights on the floor for this soft and pretty look.

The crystal candelabras were a beautiful touch.

Recent finds. Five Syracuse China saucers, "Wayside" pattern. Made in the USA, 1960's. Unmarked handmade mug. Metal candle stands to be made into doll tables. Tray from 99¢ store. Oct. 2012.

Origin: Italy. Period: 20th Century. Pair of candlestand end tables, of mahogany, each round top inset with distressed mirror, with gadrooned apron, raised on a trio of carved swan-neck legs, of ebonized wood, terminating in ball and claw feet, joined by shelf stretcher, on a tripartite plinth base. Grouping different types of candle votives together gives a soft glow.

Crystals, satin, tulle, pearls, flowers, candlelight...checklist for a "spring inspired" wedding ceremony I decorated.

It is a gift for my mother on Mothers Day. People say that when a Buddha statue is gifted to someone, it will bring more luck.

In the Christian tradition today is celebrated as Holy Thursday, the first day in the Triduum which culminates on Easter Sunday evening. This candleholder is over 50 years old and the design is enamel over copper. I found it gorgeous as the sun filtering through a nearby window fell across the face of the enameled designs.

Out of respect to all faith traditions, may I wish you Peace!

A view facing toward the front altar at the church of St Mary-le-Bow. According to interior descriptions of the church, ''The figure (or Corpus) of the crucified Christ on the east wall is a recent work by Simon Robinson; together with Paschal (or Easter) and altar candlestands. ... High above the Altar hangs a Rood (figures of the crucified Christ, Our Lady and those at the foot of the Cross), which was a gift from the people of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1964 – the first such rood here since the Reformation. ... The centre light [of the stained glass] depicts Christ in Majesty above the City of God from the Book of Revelation and surrounded by the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit as flames of fire; woven behind Him is a portion of the wall of the City, suggestive of the City of God in the Book of Revelation. To the left of the Altar the Blessed Virgin Mary rests on the arches of the crypt from which many have believed the church acquired its name: Sancta Maria de Arcubus, St Mary-le-Bow or St Mary of the Arches. She holds Wren's church and tower. The window to the right depicts St Paul, his cathedral clearly visible behind him. Both saints are surrounded by the churches which survived the blitz, held by the saint of the dedication in each case.''

Another New Microphone

When I ordered the Sennheiser e609 Silver mic I also ordered a Rode NTG1 shotgun mic. It arrived today. I will use this to capture my voice for video work. The e609 or the Shure SM57 will capture the amp sound. Now I need to get some lights to improve my videos. Yes, still a dork.

I gave platelets today. I had Joe again and it went uneventfully. I watched almost all of The Fifth Element.

A picture showing how dark it is in some of these old homes. I have had to work in the light, it was a bit afraid to enter the domain of darkness.

This is a candleholder I have, but it's actually all a bronzed dark brownish black color. And the dragon is really broken now from moving...but that's besides the point!
