The historic Nootka Mission Hospital operated from this location until 1974.
Ceepeecee (from the initials CPC for the California Packing Corporation), on the west coast of Vancouver Island, near Nootka Island, was the site of a sardine cannery from about 1926 to about 1951. The cannery was built after large quantities of sardines (pilchard) appeared in the area and was abandoned after they ceased to appear. The nearest populated places are Tahsis and Zeballos.
Ceepeecee nothing but a memory now - In 1925 a small oily fish, known as sardines or pilchard, started to appear off of the west coast of Vancouver Island. Fishing companies scrambled to establish reduction plants — where fish were rendered for their oil — and canneries in order to harvest these fish. The future site of Ceepeecee — on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, North of Nootka Island between Tahsis and Zeballos -— was selected for the site of a fish plant due to its sheltered bay and year-round fresh water supply. William R. Lord, who was the son of the original owner of the Nootka cannery, staked a claim to the site and then sold it to the Canadian Packing Corporation, a subsidiary of the California Packing Corporation (CPC) who built a plant to process pilchards in 1926. Ceepeecee got its name when the locals made a request for a post office, and in the official name section of the form spelled out the phonetic sound for the initials — CPC. The CPC operated the plant until 1934, when they sold the site to Nelson Bros. Fisheries Ltd. of New Westminister. The California Packing Corporation, or Calpak as it was commonly known, was founded in 1916 by the merger of five major canning enterprises - the California Fruit Canners Association, Griffin & Skelley, Central California Canneries, the J.K. Armsby Company and the Alaska Packers Association.
This locality is now operated as a spiritual retreat, the Nootka Mission, on a year-round basis; 8-12 families are resident here, with a good wharf and fuel facilities.
The Ceepeecee Post Office was opened - 15 May 1926 at the Canadian Packing Company cannery. The Post Office was relocated about 1 mile westward to the settlement of Esperanza, 1 April 1955. It was renamed Esperanza Post Office - 16 February 1960, to conform to the name of the settlement. Northland Navigation Company cancelled steamer service to this location 22 December 1971. The Esperanza Post Office closed - 29 August 1974.

While industrial design alumni go on to work in very different fields, many say the design education they received at Auburn serves as the foundation of all they do.
