The Rizal House in the City of Calamba is a reproduction of the original Spanish Colonial-style, two-storey house where Jose P. Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines was born on June 19, 1861. The original Rizal ancestral house took two years for Francisco Mercado, Rizal's father to built. The Spanish authorities confiscated the house in 1891. Paciano Rizal, brother of Jose P. Rizal reoccupied the house during the Philippine Revolution, but lost it again to the friars. It was subsequently sold, destroyed in World War II and was finally demolished. By Executive Order of President Elpidio Quirino, a replica of the birthplace of Jose Rizal commenced with funds mainly contributed by school children in the Philippines and was supervised by Architect Juan F. Nakpil in 1949. As a reconstruction of the original house, the house was a faithful reconstruction of the original house which occupies the same area and the same materials. The building was inaugurated on June 19, 1950 and served as repository of Rizal's memorabilia. The Rizal Shrine is a typical bahay na bato for upper-class Filipinos built during the Spanish Colonial era. The lower portion is made of stone and bricks while the upper part consists of hard wood. It has sliding windows made out of capiz shells. The outside wall is painted in green (originally white) and the roof is made of red tiles.

Laguna lies on the southern shores of Laguna de Bay, the largest lake in the country. On the southern border of the province are Mt. Makiling and Mt. BanĂ¡haw, both are long dormant volcanoes, but still sources of geothermal energy. Mt. Makiling is popular for the numerous hot spring resorts that are found on its slopes. Pagsanjan Falls, is a popular waterfall that tumbles down a deep gorge in the hills.
Laguna is notable as the birthplace of Jose Rizal, the country's national hero. It is also famous for attractions like Pagsanjan Falls, the hot spring resorts of Los Baños and Calamba on the slopes of Mount Makiling, Pila historic town plaza, Taytay Falls in Majayjay, the wood carvings and papier-mĂ¢chĂ© created by the people of PaetĂ©, the annual Sampaguita Festival in San Pedro, the turumba of Pakil, the tsinelas footwears from Liliw, and the Pandan Festival of Luisiana, the Seven Lakes of San Pablo.
