1978 Rover 2600.

Anglia Car Auctions, King's Lynn -

"Chassis number: RRWMU7AA069149. This very good condition example of Rover's SD1 executive cruiser of the 1980s and 1990s is very much of its British Leyland era, finished in Turmeric with Coriander velour interior. It's a relatively early example of its type, having been registered in November 1978; the six-cylinder 2600 having only been launched in October 1977. The mileage recorded is a mere 14,465 miles. As an historic vehicle, the Rover no longer requires annual MoT testing; this one was last tested in August 2021 at 13,990 miles.

"The history folder with the car is an extensive one. It includes the current V5C plus some past ones, the original book pack with owner's handbook, Leyand Passport to Service booklet, colour and trim guide and price list. There's also a personal log of petrol use from 1978 to 1981 and then 2007 and 2008, plus a copy of Autocar magazine from January 1979, MoT certificates from 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2020 and 2021, and a stack of bills from 2007 onwards, showing considerable care and expenditure. There's also several sets of keys."

Estimate: £12,000 - £16,000. Sold for £15,768 including premium.

寶石之國

I was on the point of giving up and going home, due to the rain getting much worse, when I spotted this approaching through the mist - I couldn't even recognise what it was, but I knew it was a transporter, so I just aimed, fired, and hoped for the best !

This one-time Wallace Arnold Excalibur was known to have been bought for conversion some years ago, but has only recently been done, and what a job it is too - it was hard to tell through the spray just how many side windows remained, but I think it is only the front two "theatre-style" ones in black, with the remainder being solid panelling. I bet it wasn't this well built when it came out of Scarborough !

After four seasons as a Wally Trolley, it ran in Devon for many years, mainly with Loverings of Combe Martin, and Target Travel of Plymouth.

Coastguard Lookout! - Porthdinllaen.

A conversation this week with a friend about Bowes Moor and the A66 reminded me of the last occasion I photographed a Leyland on that stretch of road many years ago. Here former West Riding C35CWT hammers down one of the dual stretches Westbound for Blackpool. United / Tees had a history of running services to the west coast resorts as registered services but dwindling demand, lack of interest from management & shortage of suitable vehicles led to their withdrawal. This was originally a Wakefield bus for many years along with 34, of course both United & West Riding were in common ownership by that stage and still are under Arriva. August 2000 and I had almost given up with this actually coming, however as I was about to leave a familiar red & cream could be seen bridging the summit in the distance some 30 minutes late.
