It's not often in Victoria that one gets a close look at one of the big bulk carriers that routinely pass us by on their way to and from the port of Vancouver, so when the Tecumseh moored for a while at Pier B, Ogden Point, I got as close as I could.
CSL stands for Canadian Steamship Lines, the shipping company in which former prime minister Paul Martin once had an interest.
The Tecumseh is one of the self-unloading sort of bulk carriers. While it may be a Canadian-owned ship it flies a flag of convenience, the Bahamas'. Looking at the ship close up one is not inclined to disbelieve its stated vital stats: 43,691 tonnes, 228.6 metres in length with a 32.26m beam. Its hold capacity is 71,476 cubic metres.
It was built in 2013, not in Canada of course, but China.
