The Crimson-rumped Toucanet is not the only species of Aulacorhynchus toucanet whose rump is red - but it is the only red-rumped member of the genus in northern South America, because of this, it is unlikely to be confused with any other members in its genus. Crimson-rumped Toucanets are fairly common in humid montane forest from southwestern Venezuela south to southwestern Ecuador. A noisy, inquisitive, social bird, this species is usually found in pairs or small groups foraging for fruits, invertebrates, small vertebrate prey in the canopy. doi.org/10.2173/bow.crrtou1.01

When I grow up I will be red and blue.

The mottley colour always makes me smile.

Will be away from Flickr for a few days.

This is a lookout spot at Bald Hill, Stanwell Tops just south of Sydney. These two Crimson Rosellas landed and stopped for a few seconds before flying off.

Through the snowy mountains of the Sierra Nevada on US Hwy 395 I drove my semi from Colton, CA north to Reno, NV. Once in Nevada i split off from 395 and headded towards Yerington on NV 208, then 80 miles from my destination I stopped in a small canyon next to a stream, to walk and photograph the beauty I was surrounded by.

I have tried to delay the frosts, I have coaxed the fading flowers, I thought I could detain a few of the crimson leaves until you had smiled upon them; but their companions call them, and they cannot stay away.
