Happy Labor Day, to those who are celebrating it. We don't have one until September
As you may or may not know, Texas use to belong to Mexico which, belonged to Spain. Anyway, that's why so many of the historical buildings look like Spanish cathedrals. I was surprised to learn that there was also a settlement of people from the Canary Islands...How did they get to Texas. I'll have to research that and get back to you. Here's a little from the Internet: Bexar County was created on December 20, 1836, and encompassed almost the entire western portion of the Republic of Texas. This included the disputed areas of western New Mexico northward to Wyoming. After statehood, 128 counties were carved out of its area.
The county was named for San Antonio de Béxar, one of the 23 Mexican municipalities (administrative divisions) of Texas at the time of its independence. San Antonio de Béxar—originally Villa de San Fernando de Béxar—was the first civil government established by the Spanish in the province of Texas. Specifically, the municipality was created in 1731 when 55 Canary Islanders settled near the system of missions that had been established around the source of the San Antonio River. The new settlement was named after the Presidio San Antonio de Béjar, the Spanish military outpost that protected the missions. The presidio, located at the San Pedro Springs, was founded in 1718 and named for Viceroy Balthasar Manuel de Zúñiga y Guzmán Sotomayor y Sarmiento, second son of the Duke of Béjar (a town in Spain). The modern City of San Antonio in the U.S. State of Texas also derived its name from San Antonio de Béjar.
County Meath (/miːð/; Irish: Contae na Mí or simply an Mhí) is a county in Ireland. It is in the province of Leinster and is part of the Mid-East Region. It is named after the historic Kingdom of Meath (from Midhe meaning "middle" or "centre"). Meath County Council is the local authority for the county. At the 2016 census, the population of the county was 195,044. The county town of Meath is Navan. Other towns in the county include Trim, Kells, Laytown, Ashbourne, Dunboyne, and Slane.
It is one of only two counties outside the west of Ireland to have an official Gaeltacht (the other being County Waterford, which has the Gaeltacht Ring) and the only county in Leinster to have an official Gaeltacht.
Just outside of Windsor, Ontario, old abandoned railway lines have been converted into hiking and biking trails, like this one beside the Arner grain elevator. At one time, freight trains connected all the small towns around Essex County, but now hikers and cyclists can go for kilometres on these wonderful trails.
When you live your life in the archives, it sometimes becomes hard to remember what you were thinking on a particular morning. On this particular morning, I was more than likely thinking about a shot for Fence Friday----so---
Happy Fence Friday everyone.

All over Ireland you will find beaches called “Tramore”! It is Irish and it means literally “Big Beach”
I expect this would be called a weed. But the plant produced lots of wind-ready fruit, and it looked elegant, for a weed.
Thank you for looking. Isn't God a great artist?

This was taken on the same day as the previous post. Heavy rains earlier in the day made for a long lasting colorful sunset and a low fog.
I think I'll be returning to this area over the next day or so. I'm not really in trail shape, and it's a longish (for me) overnight hike.
It'll be me, the tent, the quilt and the Chamonix for a dozen or so miles. I'm not bringing another camera. I'll have more than enough time to take it easy and just relax into the walking and shooting.
Since I've photographed this place before, I'm looking to find new views. And if my legs will allow it, there's another section to explore. We'll see if I can make it.

Orange County hardly lives up to its name anymore. A few orchards may survive, but today the endless citrus groves that once clothed the county in green are only a memory. Before a postwar population boom triggered an almost wholesale conversation of farmland to suburbia, much of Orange County appeared decidedly rural. In 1948, a vast forest of five million Valencia orange trees grew on 67,000 acres.
Found these Orange County Beauties at the Fullerton Arboretum in Fullerton, California.
