Third image in my small critters series.
We watched this cottontail rabbit hanging out in a Badlands National Park prairie dog town. It seemed quite at home and the prairie dogs didn't seem to mind its presence. When alarmed, it would run to a prairie dog burrow for a safe haven, as it had done in this shot.
I mentioned to my wife that it must think it's a prairie dog.
There are three cottontail species in the badlands. Eastern, Mountain and Desert. My best guess is that this is a Desert Cottontail. But I'm far from certain.

It took me three years, but I am beginning to get the hang of this camera. No double exposures, no blank shots, no ripped film, no out-of-focus shots this time.

So, I'm watching the two American Avocets. Mating is on their minds - she gets low, he's throwing water, and then this Stilt comes along. I'm loudly thinking, "stilt, get outathe way." To my shock, he mounts her!! Now, I don't know if she's in shock and let him carry on, but there was definitely no afterplay. In fact, when the stilt got off, she kinda stood up and looked a little to be scolding him. And I felt really bad for the Avocet male, now off to the side, maybe a little dazed and hurt. Pretty crazy.
There are several species of Bumble bees in Southern Ontario and this is the Confusing Bumble bee (Bombus Perplexus)
Confusing Fledglings
So far I have seen four species of newly fledged baby birds in my yard. Some can be difficult to identify until you see them begging for food and being fed by adults, but they are fun to watch as build up their skills
This is one of the young starlings that have been mobbing my yard for a couple of days

My husband had a couple of colleagues from Stockholm over for dinner last night, so we broke out all kinds of glasses--my favorite cobalt water goblets, cocktail glasses, cognac glasses, and regular red wine glasses. I washed them all by hand last night and left them out to air dry. This morning I noticed the sun light flashing through them, and of course I grabbed my camera before the light shifted.
I'd like to dedicate this one to my honey chile, Tammy, who wrote a lovely and heartfelt testimonial for me the other day. I really have to take some time to spread the love around myself--very soon. Thank you, chile! <3
"There's no time to give at all
I cause you grief and blow my hatred
Further in your mind
You reach, I run, you fall
On skinned knees you crawl
I want to set you free, recognize my disease
Love, sex, pain, confusion, suffering
You're there crying, I feel not a thing
Drilling my way deeper in your head
Sinking, draining, drowning, bleeding, dead"
Not really, as the one of the left is for car merging, but I thought it created a interesting image.
Gulf Boulevard is a nice road, with a bike lane the entire way, creating a nice "safe" zone to enjoy the scenery along the Gulf and beaches. The red zone is for pedestrians. Click on the map to give you an idea where it is.

This American Redstart would show his tail , then his head. He could not figure out which side of the fence he wanted to be on.
