Uno dei simboli di Tropea è rappresentato dall'isola di Tropea, prima completamente staccata dalla città e poi ricongiunta dall'insabbiamento.

Dalla navata nord della chiesa si accede al Chiostro del Duomo di Cefalù. Si tratta di uno dei tre chiostri normanni esistenti in Sicilia, insieme a quelli del Duomo di Monreale e della Cattedrale di Lipari, nonché il più antico. Il chiostro è stato costruito contemporaneamente alla Cattedrale, è a pianta quadrata ed è caratterizzato dalla presenza di colonne binate con capitelli scolpiti. Nel 1809 un incendio ha distrutto completamente il lato orientale e parte del fianco occidentale e meridionale. Gli elementi ancora visibili permettono comunque di apprezzare la bellezza di uno dei migliori esempi di arte medievale europea. L’apparato scultoreo è ispirato interamente a storie dell’Antico e del Nuovo Testamento e il chiostro stesso rappresenta la figura del Paradiso celeste sulla terra. Ognuno dei suoi quattro lati rappresenta uno dei quattro libri della Bibbia. I capitelli originali sopravvissuti sono il decimo dell’ala sud e il quattordicesimo, che raffigura l’Arca di Noè e poi il quarto dell’ala ovest con raffigurazioni di animali.
From the north aisle of the church you enter the Cloister of the Cathedral of Cefalù. It is one of the three Norman cloisters existing in Sicily, together with those of the Cathedral of Monreale and the Cathedral of Lipari, as well as the oldest. The cloister was built at the same time as the Cathedral, has a square plan and is characterized by the presence of coupled columns with sculpted capitals. In 1809 a fire completely destroyed the eastern side and part of the western and southern flank. The still visible elements still allow you to appreciate the beauty of one of the best examples of European medieval art. The sculptural apparatus is entirely inspired by stories from the Old and New Testaments and the cloister itself represents the figure of heavenly Paradise on earth. Anno 2013, inverno molto rigido, che spinse questo giovane a svernare molto più a sud del solito. Lo trovammo, grazie anche a un pescatore, che mangiava semini di una piccola pianta nata fra gli scogli del porto di Giulianova. We found it, thanks also to a fisherman, who ate seeds of a small plant born among the rocks of the port of Giulianova. Ex cava dismessa con fiume che gli passava vicino e che insieme all'acqua piovana aveva formato uno splendido habitat per l'avifauna. Ero completamente sdraiato sul letto ciottoloso delle sue rive sopra un tappetino yoga e sotto un telo mimetico.
Purtroppo l'anno seguente l'ex cava è diventata un laghetto di pesca sportiva......addio avifauna. Abruzzo
Squacco Heron. Formerly abandoned quarry with a river that passed close to it and which together with rainwater had formed a wonderful habitat for birdlife. I was completely lying on the pebbly bed of its banks on a yoga mat and under a camouflage cloth.

Palacio del Dux de Venezia
La leyenda narra que en tiempos a los condenados a muerte les era concedido, como última posibilidad de salvarse, el intentar el «giro de la columna». De hecho todavía hoy una de las columnas del Palacio Ducal está ligeramente torcida hacia dentro. El intento consistía en dar vueltas alrededor de la columna, por su parte externa, sin resbalar, pero casi nadie lo conseguía completamente.
El color del Palacio cambia según la luz del día, adquiriendo una tonalidad rosa muy delicada pero conservando en las ojivas góticas —simétricas— un color rosáceo y blanco.
The legend tells that in times to death row it was granted, as a last possibility to escape, trying the "turn of the column. La Porta all'Arco faceva parte delle antiche mura etrusche di Volterra. Costruita tra il IV e il III secolo aC, è giunta fino a noi in tutta la sua imponenza. La particolarità della costruzione risiede nell'utilizzo delle pietre, che si caratterizzano per i tre diversi colori in base al tipo di roccia utilizzato: giallo per la struttura portante, grigio per l'arco e più scuro per le tre teste misteriose. Queste figure sono ciò che ha sempre reso affascinante la porta: molte sono infatti le leggende e le attribuzioni che le riguardano.
La sua storia, che l'ha vista teatro di scontri disparati, contribuisce sicuramente a dargli quell'aura magica che ha attraversato i secoli. Una scena d'assedio è già rappresentata in un'urna del I secolo aC, che oggi possiamo vedere al Museo Etrusco Guarnacci.
Ma il cancello è stato visto in pericolo anche durante la seconda guerra mondiale. Sentendo l'imminente arrivo degli alleati, le truppe tedesche minacciarono di farla saltare in aria. Gli abitanti del luogo, pur consapevoli che con il loro gesto avrebbero ritardato la liberazione della città, in una notte la murarono completamente utilizzando il selciato e, con questa coraggiosa azione, la salvarono. Alcune lapidi ricordano l'evento.
The Porta all'Arco was part of the ancient Etruscan walls of Volterra. Built between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC, it has come down to us in all its grandeur. The peculiarity of the construction lies in the use of stones, which are characterized by the three different colors based on the type of rock used: yellow for the supporting structure, gray for the arch and darker for the three mysterious heads. These figures are what has always made the door fascinating: in fact, there are many legends and attributions concerning them.
Its history, which has seen it the scene of disparate clashes, certainly contributes to giving it that magical aura that has spanned the centuries. A siege scene is already represented in an urn from the 1st century BC, which we can see today at the Guarnacci Etruscan Museum.
But the gate was seen in danger even during World War II. Hearing the imminent arrival of the allies, German troops threatened to blow it up. The inhabitants of the place, although aware that with their gesture they would have delayed the liberation of the city, in one night they completely walled it up using the pavement and, with this courageous action, saved it. Some tombstones commemorate the event.

Questa Pivieressa giovane si alimentava all'interno della riva del mare dove c'era una bassa vegetazione con piante piene di semi. Grazie alla sua taglia di certo non piccola come quella di altri limicoli e alla sua limitata diffidenza sono riuscito a fotografarla sdraiato e completamente allo scoperto. Abruzzo

Una bella "passeggiata" con tanto di attrezzatura pesante, fin sotto la cima del Gran Sasso, ha regalato a me ed il mio amico Davide, forti dolori alle gambe, ma anche la soddisfazione di rincontrare dopo 2 anni questo bello e sempre gradito ospite delle nostre montagne, che si è fatto fotografare completamente allo scoperto.
Alpine Accentor. A nice "walk" with lots of heavy equipment, right under the summit of the Gran Sasso, gave me and my friend Davide, strong pains in my legs, but also the satisfaction of meeting again after 2 years this beautiful and always welcome guest of our mountains, that have been completely photographed in the open. Alla foce di un fiume abruzzese completamente allo scoperto nell'acqua e in ginocchio con gli stivaloni. Era un bellissimo tramonto di Febbraio con a fianco il mio amico Davide che conosceva il posto. Abruzzo - Italia
