'That which we call a rose, by any other word would smell as sweet.'

This rose, Compassion, has an exquisite scent.

I'm thinking of George Orwell planting roses

in his cottage garden in Wallington.

And of Clare of course, so often in my thoughts.

THE COLOR “RED” IN CHINA

Of all the colors, “red” attracts the most attention. The people considered the red color auspicious and a color that expresses honor.

Time has passed, but the thought of respect for the color red has not changed. No matter where and when (in China), people use red color to express happiness. People see the red color as a symbol of happiness, success, loyalty and justice (see also: the mask in Peking Opera).

And especially in China, it is believed that the red color has the effect of keeping bad and evil away from the human body:

Red lamps are hung on New Year's Day, the firecrackers have a red cover, the banners on the door are red.

In addition, many are accustomed to wearing red in years when the number "9" occurs, to avoid the evil. Therefore, it can be said that the red color is China's lucky color, bringing people stability, happiness and prosperity

Since COVID started infecting people all over the world and many were dying, I started thinking about compassion. We think we have it so hard when we have to stay indoors, or just walking about our neighbourhoods, but compared to the very ill and their families, as well as all the front line workers, we have it good, and we’re safe. I had a couple of days when I guess I could say I felt sorry for myself for not being able to get out, but then I really realized that I’m one of the lucky ones! And I feel so much compassion for all the unlucky ones and those whom this worldwide curse is affecting the most. Even if people aren't sick, so many are experiencing anxiety, panic attacks and fear.

So I decided I wanted to create a piece on compassion. I tried a couple of times over two weeks, but with lighting issues and other problems, I gave up for awhile. But determination took over, and although I know my lighting isn’t the greatest, and this isn’t a technically good photograph, it’s what I wanted to convey. As I only had myself to shoot, I am both people in the image (which had its issues as well), but I didn’t want any faces shown, as this is a universal issue. Having to be in both roles reminded me that we need to have compassion for ourselves as well. I hope that this conveys my feelings in creating this image. We are all in this together and compassion and empathy are what we need.

thank you for all your visits

I've brought indoors a lone rose from the climbing bush.

The smell of peaches is beautiful.

First, my apologies for the somewhat poor composition. I took this shot literally the first week I touched a camera. Regardless of my inability to capture the moment well though, I couldn't help but make an attempt.....not only was the Cathedral breathtakingly beautiful, but note at lower right the young person unable to walk (who later I found out was paralyzed in an auto accident) being carried to the front of the church for prayer.

Una feroce compassione

Dalla stanza dove il respiro secco

ingigantiva il passo della morte

alla soglia stellata dove la parola

prima che mi uscì fu ‘adesso resto io

era un percorso lungo nella notte

ancora fredda di marzo. Erano stelle

confuse lontanissime il sollievo

di animale che ha sfuggito lo sparo

la fortuna incerta futile di un giorno,

di qualche anno ancora, forse, di sopravvivenza,

l’ebete corsa con lo sguardo

all’orologio – l’una passata - e poi

a due che uscivano dal bar

veloci litigando scontenti

senza curarsi d’essere ancora vivi

e all’improvviso nella notte

avere sonno, ricordarsi l’ostinato refrain

di una canzone idiota, la nascita dei figli,

una cravatta sparita chissà dove,

oscillare

lungo l’orlo di un pozzo senza nome

tiepido nero nauseabondo,

il prima e il dopo,

quella cortina secca opaca in mezzo,

il battito dell’occhio,

ricordarsi la detestazione

gli urli e i silenzi cupi

la sua faccia angosciata alla finestra

-‘non telefoni mai’-

l’affetto suo nevrotico invadente

avvertire poi, di spalle inaspettata

una feroce compassione

dirmi come se fosse un altro a dire

con faticosa

con stentata pena

‘mia madre è morta’.

Compassionate humans are everywhere if we are willing to open our eyes and see the kindness of those around us. Compassion is human nature.

So why dont we as humans show more compassion and kindness towards our planet, to Mother Nature, the environment and nature surrounding us. It makes me wonder. Why are we destroying the beauty of nature?

Why dont we acknowledging the need of animals, and nature in general, and the importance of their survival, as well as showing interest in their well-being, after all we need nature to be able to live here on earth.

I want to yet again praise and thank Una and Bo for putting the environment on the agenda, by making this sim.

I hope many will visit, but I also hope and wish people will take the time to sit down and reflect about what they see on the sim, this could very well be a real life scenario if we dont stop and think. By doing so hopefully we can make some changes in the way we treat our planet and the environment, we can all do something, even if little. It is a fact that global warming and climate change is effecting all of us. Some of the things we all can notice are: pollution, global warming, overpopulation, waste disposal, ocean acidification, loss of biodiversity, deforestation, ozone layer depletion, and the list goes on....

I am sorry my meager photoshop skills can't do this more justice. In the wake of evil, the symbol of the open hand is a powerful symbol. It conveys invitation, openness, compassion, and togetherness. In a time when rage begins it slow burn, an open hand can sometimes help love prevail over fury. Paris, the world offers you a hand of compassion. And, while war always seems inevitable in this broken world, may we all long for peace.

Yet, a giraffe could be highly dangerous. Handle with respect.

Beauty, compassion, understanding and love are my weapons of choice in this World Anti-war I. I feel that they are very powerful. And on the both sides of this war (of course you know that there, in Russia, at the other side of the war, a lot of people are fighting against war, as they could) my heart is with peaceful people. Even at the battlefields Ukrainians are fighting to banish and to take down the war.

They hate the war. They are fighting for peace. And so am I.

Standing tall in divine grace, this is the magnificent bronze statue of Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy, at Kek Lok Si Temple in Penang, Malaysia. Rising over 30 meters high, she represents compassion, kindness, and love—values deeply cherished in Buddhist culture.

Kek Lok Si, Southeast Asia's largest Buddhist temple, has been a beacon of spirituality and cultural pride since the late 19th century. This awe-inspiring pavilion, completed in 2009, shelters the goddess with its intricately carved pillars and vibrant roof, symbolizing both strength and serenity.

A visit to Kek Lok Si is not only a spiritual journey but also a visual delight—where history, architecture, and faith come together in perfect harmony.

Tip for Visitors: The temple's hilltop location offers a stunning panoramic view of Penang, especially at sunset. Don’t miss this sacred masterpiece!

Today is the 12th day of Valentine's month of February; I must include laughter in my February love group. Laughter keeps one younger, lightens up everyone's mood, and can change the direction of the general mood from a sad, gloomy one to a happy and joyous one. Laughter in itself is a kind of medicine, one that we cannot live without!

Laughing Song

William Blake

When the green woods laugh with the voice of joy,

And the dimpling stream runs laughing by;

When the air does laugh with our merry wit,

And the green hill laughs with the noise of it;

when the meadows laugh with lively green,

And the grasshopper laughs in the merry scene,

When Mary and Susan and Emily

With their sweet round mouths sing "Ha, ha he!"

When the painted birds laugh in the shade,

Where our table with cherries and nuts is spread:

Come live, and be merry, and join with me,

To sing the sweet chorus of "Ha, ha, he!"

A day without laughter is a day wasted.

Charlie Chaplin

The most wasted of all days is one without laughter.

E.E. Cummings

We need more kindness, more compassion, more joy, more laughter. I definitely want to contribute to that.
