Comps as in composites (family of plant- Asteraceae, formerly Compositae), not compositions. Now that our summer has turned hot and smoky with many plants withering, it is time to look back at flowers from mid-summer. On the left is Blanketflower (Gaillardia aristata), which occurs throughout western North America. Note the several insect visitors among its petals. On the right is a Fleabane Daisy (Erigeron spp, one of the 44 species that occur in Colorado).

One of my local spot and comps that I keep on shooting.

This one was taken during a photo tour whilst blue hour and came out not too bad. Unfortunately someone has decided that we can't have any clouds in this area in 2022 but I liked the overall light with a bit of color in the sky as well as the reflection of that cozy cabin window light. ...a bit like a west coast version of 'our little farm on the prairies' ...turn off the lights John Boy, haha

I used two layers to make this image work. Can you guess how?

Rest of photographs of last October I had on my comp and didn't post for whatever reason.

Taken on 21 September - my first visit to this beautiful garden near Borough Green in kent

Scottish theme at Ulis comp this week :)

In between climbs at the ASCI Showdown on June 30th, 2007, the competitors had 5 minutes to rest, stretch, contemplate, or stare aimlessly out into the crowd.

[I tried something different with these shots in my post-processing in PS. I wanted to mimic rebekka's latest portraits through lens blurring all but the core of the subject. So here, I made feathered selections of only the climbers' faces, hands, and in some cases, arms, then lens blurred the inverse. I'm happy with the results, and I will definitely have to try this again with more serious subjects.]
