This small rural community has a rather large old Church from around the year 1200, so as many other places, I guess this have been a larger community many years ago. I wonder about the silos, because under normal conditions, it is not allowed to build something tall or ugly close to a church, those silos are both tall and ugly, so I guess there must have been corruption involved here ! I like to do both documentations and historic photography, so things like this, I think is important for the future to be documented.

High Street, Markyate, Hertfordshire. The county in general, but this village in particular, is regarded as "safe". The crime rate, when compared to the UK average, is low. This "safety", however, comes at a price. Using a bit of sarcasm, I could say that one would not commit a crime here because there is nothing interesting to be criminal about. But, on the other hand, boredom and predictability also have their price. In this village, young people have no way of advancing their career and prospects. Self harm, particularly among young men, is common. When it comes to protecting the community, "safety" is only one of the core elements.

Above image only shows a portion of all the Brown Pelicans at Malibu Lagoon. It seems they may be struggling to find sufficient food. Saw four dead pelicans - probably many more.

Got to see these amazing sunflowers in the Glenwood Community garden, which was right behond our hotel. Apparently, in the spring, the people in the town line up to stake out a plot in the garden. The plants, vegetables, and flowers were all in full bloom when we visited about two weeks ago. The backdrop to this garden is second to none.
