I was surprised to see this common starling at Lake Meyer Park today. I can usually count the number of times I see a starling in the park on one hand during any given year. Although many people consider the common/European starling a nuisance, and I guess they can be in certain settings, I think they are a beautiful bird. This colorful starling is close to being in full breeding plumage already.

It was interesting watching a flock of well over a hundred of these redpolls foraging on the field weeds, then suddenly swirling into the air and seconds later returning to almost the same spot. Possibly the heavy winds of 40 to 60 km per hour contributed to this behaviour.
Thank you for viewing, always appreciated.
Another highlight of last year was doing some work with trying to capture dragonflies in flight. After a lot of hard work and a sore shoulder I think I succeeded
A Chaffinch in winter plumage. This used to be a common species in my garden, but sadly numbers have dropped in recent years.

Taken at Inglewood Bird Sanctuary when this loon decided to visit Calgary for a couple of weeks. It was a real treat to see it in the city.
Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.
Apparently, this is a Common Yellowthroat but I've never seen one, so I'm not to sure how common they are to Maryland. Of course, I'm also relatively new to bird photography.
