The Doulton Fountain is the largest terracotta fountain in the world, as well as the best surviving example of its kind. The fountain has been beautifully restored and relocated to the front of the People's Palace. The Doulton Fountain was gifted to the city by Sir Henry Doulton, and first unveiled at the Empire Exhibition held at Kelvingrove Park in 1888. The fountain was then moved to Glasgow Green in 1890. A sculptural extravaganza, the fountain was designed to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee of 1887, and celebrate Britain’s Imperial achievements - the fountain is crowded with figurative groups representing Australia, Canada, India and South Africa. It IS very hard (as someone pointed out in a recent comment on another of my pics) to capture snowflakes falling. To tell you the truth, when I shot this, I wasn't sure WHAT I was gonna end up with. It was blizzarding... with harsh sharp stinging blasts of wind driving the wet snow into my eyes, and up my nose, and through every tiny crick and crack in my many layers of outerwear. I had two toques on... and a hood... and because they so reduced my visibility... a minute or so before I shot this, I walked right into a low-hanging tree branch. Oh, man. It was like taking a 2x4 to the head.

So... yeah. I couldn't really see much of anything when I took this pic. In fact, I'd headed for the sheltered corner of this shed to try to get out of the weather for a second, so I could readjust a few things. Like my foul weather bag, which was affixed to my camera, and my hand... and was steaming up something terrible.

Um... anyway. I like the movement of the snowflakes here. And I've always liked this shed. And it was a helluva day. So it's nice to have something to remember it by.

A birthday weekend in Derby visiting Gemma.

It was my birthday on the MOnday, then on the Friday it was Gemma's.

Friday afternoon we went out to Maze 52 - a maize maze on the A52 that we visited last year too. Wow, the sunflowers and the wild flower garden were amazing!

Then for tea we headed to the awesome Cherry Tree Farm for carvery. And Gemma got a free slice of cake because it was her birthday.

The slice was enormous!
