HS Senior Portrait Shoot - Class of 2017

High School ends and new beginnings in college. So excited for my one and only daughter!

Update: LUCAS AND JILLIAN HAVE BOTH BEEN ACCEPTED AT THE COLLEGE OF THEIR CHOICE!!

Lucas and Jillian. Their senior year is almost over! Graduation in June. I am so proud of these two. The college applications have all been sent out and are awaiting acceptance. Jill has maintained an A average all year. If anyone has an extra prayer, please send it Jill's way..her college of choice is UVM...medicine. It is so hard ..for some reason..for the locals to get accepted...and she's worked so hard..and this is her dream. When these photos were taken at senior photo shoot...they were a little apprehensive about what the year had in store. Now...they're on the "right track." Congrats, guys....I love you!

I could not be prouder of my oldest son. He has an Autism Spectrum Disorder - close to Asperger's but not quite. This is coupled with a general anxiety disorder, hearing loss, and an auditory processing disorder. Truly the cards were stacked againt him from day one. Therapists never gave me much hope that he would ever begin to thrive or be able to do well on his own. I never gave up on him and got him all the help I could find, but let me tell you, this child WORKED so hard at overcoming what life threw at him. It pained me to watch him struggle, and many years of frustration on both our ends led to tears. I never lost hope because HE was my strength, he showed me what it is to be an overcomer and achiever.

He spent many nights in his younger years crying while he did his homework but he never gave up. He came home baffled why things were they way they were. Day by day, he worked, learned, and plodded forward, defying the odds. He became an all around performer any parent would be proud to call their child.

Despite the odds, he has blossomed into a successful, well liked, sincere, kind-hearted young man. He made straight A's all the way through school and is graduating NHS in the top 10% of his class. He has excelled in AFJROTC as part of the leadership team (these are the top 8 kids that run the show out of about 160 cadets), he has led most every unit and club within the organization, has created new opportunities, tutored other kids, and spent countless hours doing community service. He has spent more hours at community service in his corps than any other cadet has ever served. He has a servant's heart. He cares nothing about money or living in the limelight. This young man wants to dedicate his life to helping others. He wants to help his community in any way he can.

After much consideration, he has accepted a scholarship to Texas Lutheran University. It is a small and fairly expensive school here in Texas, which is about 30 minutes from home ... although he will be living in the dorms. He chose this school knowing it's small size would be much a much better suited learning environment for him. Also, they offer a business degree with an emphasis in non-profit and communications. He knows what he wants and he goes after it. We would never be able to afford to send him to TLU, but he earned the highest scholarship they offer, which pays for half of his room and board, tuition, books, etc.

I think back to the times I doubted he would make it to this point and I am so glad I never gave up on him, but prouder still that he never gave up on himself. Everywhere we go classmates see him and girls hug him and tell him hello. He's not a social creature, but nevertheless, the love in his heart must shine through even to his peers because he was never picked on, and people genuinely like him.

I could never put into words how proud of my baby I am. So if any of you have a "borderline" child .. have hope, never give up, lift them up every chance you can, love them for who they are, for their uniqueness, encourage them and just LOVE THEM. You will get your reward. He doesn't see the world through the same glasses the rest of us do, but in my book, that's a good thing. I love this child and I now have complete confidence he is ready to fly on his own. So all you nay sayers along the way ... he showed you, didn't he!

For those of you who have watched my boys grow up here on Flickr .. This is my youngest,. He is a high school senior this year. Time flies.

Wesley is the Corps Commander for his AFJROTC unit and the highest ranking officer as well. He has been #1 in his class the entire way through school so we are hoping he can hang on to the Valedictorian title at year's end. (out of a class of approximately 650 students) . He's a hard worker, loving, fun, thoughtful, smart, and cute.

He will be majoring in Biomedical Sciences and has plans to attend medical school after college. He wants to be an ER Physician or a General Surgeon. Maybe he can keep me alive a long enough to pay for all his schooling, ha! :D We are very proud of our 2 very hard working young men.

It was her prom and she shined like a bright diamond.

Celebrating the Class of 2026 with these vibrant, sun-kissed senior portraits! This lovely graduate rocked a floral mini dress and classic white cowgirl boots, perfectly capturing a fun, free-spirited, and stylish look against a beautiful, rustic, outdoor backdrop. The natural setting and golden light provide a timeless feel as she gets ready for her next big adventure.

Taken on College Bounds / High Street in Old Aberdeen, an area where there is more than a reasonable amount of street lighting - so this image has been affected by light pollution. I had to do a lot of prodding to the histogram in Aftershot Pro 3 in order for a lot of these stars to become visible, and image quality has likely suffered a fair bit as a result. Once this damned pandemic is over and lockdown restrictions are eased, maybe I'll go out into the countryside one night and attempt to get some better shots. Assuming the Scottish weather complies.

I've tried to put the names of some of the more prominent of these objects in as notes on this photo, with varying degrees of success (read: I'll likely have put at least one of these names in the wrong place, sorry about that). I used to know these better when I was a kid, but that was a while ago now, and I'm a bit rusty, to say the least. If your favourite star or other celestial object is mislabelled, or not labelled at all, please let me know!

If you should find yourself hitch-hiking across the galaxy, please try not to use the notes on this photo as any kind of a navigational aid, always remember to bring your towel with you, and most importantly, Don't Panic.

And here the moment that makes it official...my daughter is a high school graduate and alumni of Cookeville High School. Congratulations Maddie for all your accomplishments and your driven, hard work. I cannot wait to see what God has planned for the next chapter of your life!!

For the first time in 20 years, we will not have a student in the elementary, middle, or high school system. Feels a little weird at this point but something I will definitely get used to...until the college tuition's start rolling in!?!

VB Prom 2017

For this pretty angel right here her Senior year of high school has been filled with so many “moments” that she will forever remember and smile for years and years to come. So happy I was able to capture this one and few others.

Don't really see what's the fuss about really, I mean she's barely ugly at all if you removed her brace, glasses and change her fashion taste a tad, can't they just employ a proper ugly bird?
