The Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI) is a collective global initiative by the major cement producers with operations in more than a hundred countries. CSI members believe that there's a robust business case for the pursuit of Sustainable development. Put together, these corporations account for the majority of the world’s cement production around the globe.

Over the time span of 10 years, CSI has majorly targeted on understanding, managing and minimizing the impacts of cement production and use by addressing a variety of problems which include global climate change, fuel use, worker health and safety, mobile emissions, concrete usage, and quarry management.

The purpose of the CSI is to:

Explore various ways of sustainable development regarding the cement industry and production;

Identify actions and facilitate steps that the cement corporations will take, on an individual basis and as a gaggle, to accelerate progress toward sustainable development;

Provide a framework for alternative cement organization to get involved;

Create the content and context for additional neutral engagement.

In 1999, under the auspices of the WBCSD(World Business Council for Sustainable Development), ten leading top cement companies commissioned the Battelle Memorial Institute to conduct a freelance analysis into how the cement business may meet these property challenges. Battelle's final report, toward a property Cement business, was discharged in Gregorian calendar month 2002.

The report lists eight major topics that are shaping the Indian cement industry's path toward an additional property future over the subsequent twenty years:

Resource productivity: Rising eco-efficiency through improved practices in production, energy use, and waste recovery and reuse;

Climate protection: Understanding and managing carbonic acid gas emissions;

Emission reduction: Reducing mud from production, and alternative mobile pollutants from cement manufacture;

Ecological stewardship: rising land-use and landscape management practices;

Employee well-being: Managing and rising worker health, safety, and satisfaction;

Community well-being: operating additional effectively with native communities;

Regional development: collaborating in regional affairs;

Shareholder price: making additional value for shareowner analysis.

The Agenda for Action:

The cement companies saw the Battelle recommendations by issue an Agenda for Action, outlining individual and joint actions by the business. Launched in July 2002, the Agenda for Action focuses on six vital issues:

Climate protection

Fuels and raw materials use

Employee health and safety

Emissions Reductions

Local impacts and land situation

Reporting and communications

Subsequently, alternative topics rising on the sustainability agenda are additional to our core operating areas, together with concrete usage, property with concrete, water, property provide chain.

In India, if we specifically consider the ratio in terms of population, a major part is covered by the rural population against the urban. There are various reasons namely political, social, cultural that hinders the development of rural areas. So it is really important for the nation to adopt and encourage students to take up Rural Development Education as it will help in the overall progress and growth of the country.

In fact, this is why many states have taken initiative by introducing the Rural Development curriculum in certain colleges. For Example, you can find one of the Best Colleges in Chattisgarh for the same.

The scenario of Rural Development in India

Rural development is a topic which is pretty easy to understand but hard to implement. It focuses on ways to uplift and boost various sections of rural economies, that suffer from issues like poverty and aims to boost their productivity. It also highlights the need to address various pressing points of the village economies that restrict growth in order to identify and improve it. Some areas that need urgent attention for Rural Development in India are:

· Public health and sanitation

· Literacy

· Female empowerment

· Enforcement of law and order

· Land reforms

· Infrastructure development like irrigation, electricity etc.

· Availability of credit

· Eradication of poverty

The rural economy is mostly dependent on agriculture and farming. Although farming and agriculture are one of the most important primary activities, the problem lies in the fact that the share in GDP of agriculture sector is on a constant decline. At the same time, about two-thirds of India’s population depends on agriculture. Overall no improvement in the current situation.

Moreover, public investment declined since 1991 coupled with lack of adequate infrastructure, credit, transport, employment, etc. Henceforth the agricultural output has grown at only 3.2% during 2007-2011. All these factors have been denting the process of development. Therefore there is a need to focus on rural development and not just urban development. Someone who is looking to take it as a career option can explore various pg courses in Chattisgarh in Rural Development.

So we see that the two key areas of improvement are employment and agriculture sector. Also, the infrastructure of rural areas should drastically be planned and improved to increase its connectivity with urban areas. Even after so many years of Independence, stigmas like caste system still have a grip on rural people, thus it is only through proper education and awareness by which these issues can be tackled.

We all know that India is a very young country at this moment if we compare it with other countries of the world. So it is in the hands of the youth to change the rural scenario through creativity and energy. Introducing Rural Development studies, PG courses or Diploma will help in laying the foundations for the growth of rural India by providing individuals the appropriate knowledge to manage and structure the chaos that has gripped the rural part of India.

To pursue courses in Rural Technologies or related PG courses you can consider colleges like CV Raman University, which is considered one of the Best Colleges in Bilaspur, that consist of a well structured and research-oriented curriculum.

Curing is the process of ensuring that moisture stays on the concrete to avoid it from hardening and developing cracks. Due to proper hydration, the strength and durability of concrete structure also increases. Various concrete suppliers too emphasize the importance of curing to the buyers beforehand. www.cmaindia.org/

Cement, a primary constituent of mortar, concrete, plaster, etc., is a prominent construction material and is only behind water as the most-consumed resource of our planet. With the advancement in technology and requirements of construction, there exist various types of cement to meet every demand. Different types are achieved by minor adjustments in which the ingredients are used during the cement production process.

Manufacturing of cement involves various raw materials and processes. Portland cement is the most common type of cement which generally used around the world as a key ingredient for making concrete, mortar, stucco, and non-speciality grout. Its main constituent is limestone, it is developed from other types of hydraulic lime.

Concrete is a man-made stone-like material that's utilized in various forms of construction. It's reliable, robust and is an essential binding agent for numerous structures. It is composed of a mix of materials like cement, sand, pebbles, gravel, shale, etc. The addition of water thickens the mixture and when applied through the bricks, cracks of walls, joints, etc it hardens and becomes firm.

With population and pollution growing every year, there is an urgent need to revamp the waste management processes being used. Landfills are now overflowing, and the incineration process consumes excessive energy while increasing carbon emission. The cement industry leaders have now come up with an idea of utilizing waste to fuel kilns used in cement production.

Different systems or structures have different requirements in terms of cement raw material, place, climatic condition, structure type etc. There are some places where storage of construction material is difficult or not possible at all for example while making paving units and traffic barriers one cannot use conventional construction methods as it would lead to blockage of roads and inconvenience for the passing vehicles.To know more about concrete then please visit this website: cmaindia.org, Also you can mail us:cmand@cmaindia.org.
