It was a beautiful day at the Farm...we were busy harvesting all the beautiful fresh vegetables when I heard some loud quacking and clucking... I run towards the river and there I saw Ms. McQuaker and her babies trying to help good old Margie, that had somehow managed to fall in the water...in a second I jumped in and had her in my arms, safe . In spite of such event she was able to pluck some of the fresh lettuce!
We were all relieved to have her back :)

While in the Okanagan last week, we went to the Grist Mill (a very old flour mill) where they also had lovely gardens and farm animals. Being vegan, I haven't eaten eggs in quite a long while, but when we saw a chicken go into the flower garden and start eating the flowers, my husband said "these are happy chickens" and decided to buy a dozen fresh eggs. Then we found out that not only were they chicken eggs, but also duck and turkey eggs. The eggs looked so pretty I decided to use them for the food theme. Have any of you tried turkey eggs?

Okay! Here’s the story on this one. I was challenged by a fellow Flickr member to post a wildlife photo. I won’t mention his name here (I’ll put it in the first comment).
I drove around for two days, but I only saw some cows very far away and deer who were gone the minute I spotted them. In all fairness to the challenger, he said it could be a domestic animal or even a bug. Did you know bugs are everywhere until you are looking for one? Also, I don’t consider neighbor’s dogs to be wildlife.
Just as I was about to head for home I spotted this hen house. I do consider chickens to be wildlife, so I took a picture. The chickens were not very cooperative, as you can see!
Now may I go back to houses and boats please?
This mated pair of Red-necked Grebes is having one of those conversations bill to bill. It's interesting when they do this - I often wonder what this means to them.

Our neighbour keeps carrier pigeons and chickens in coops right on the property line. We like the rural sounds, e.g. the clucking of the chickens, that reach us. And sometimes we even get a few eggs as a gift. But like everywhere else in Berlin, it's not just people and their pets who live here; many wild animals have also conquered the city for themselves. We have seen a fox (maybe always the same one, maybe more than one) several times, but we have never been able to observe it as well as this one, which must have been tempted by the poultry in the sheds. We were able to follow it from the moment when two crows, not visible in the pictures, tried to chase it away from the roof of the pigeon coop by squawking loudly, until it jumped down over the fence onto our property, disappointed, after a walk over the roof of the chicken coop and then crept behind the hedge to the road.
Many thanks for your visits, faves and comments. Cheers.
Little Wattlebird
Scientific Name: Anthochaera chrysoptera
Description: The Little Wattlebird is a medium to large honeyeater, but is the smallest of the wattlebirds. It is mostly dark grey-brown above, with faint white shafts on each of the feathers. The underparts are grey and are heavily streaked with white. The streaks are finer around the throat, becoming more blotched on the sides of the belly. In flight, there is a large rufous patch in the wings. The eye is blue-grey. Birds of Western Australia have a red eye and a silver patch on the side of the throat; these are sometimes regarded as a different species. The sexes are similar. Young Little Wattlebirds resemble the adults, but are duller, have less streaking and a have a browner eye.
Similar species: The larger Red Wattlebird, Anthochaera carunculata, has a yellow belly patch, red wattles on its cheeks and lacks rufous in the wings. Only one other wattlebird species is found in Australia, the Yellow Wattlebird, A. paradoxa, of Tasmania. It is the largest of the three wattlebirds, and indeed the largest of Australia's honeyeaters. It has large yellow wattles hanging from the cheeks.
Distribution: Little Wattlebirds are found throughout south-eastern and south-western Australia and Tasmania.
Habitat: Little Wattlebirds prefer the drier and often scrubby, habitats, such as banksia heaths, forests, woodlands and urban parks and gardens.
Feeding: As with other honeyeaters, Little Wattlebirds feed on nectar, which is obtained using a long, brush-tipped tongue, specially adapted to probing deep into flowers. Other food includes insects, flowers, berries and some seeds. Most feeding is done while perched, but some insects are caught in mid-air. Birds may feed alone or in small to large groups.
Breeding: If conditions are suitable as many as three broods may be raised in a year. The female Little Wattlebird normally constructs the nest, which is a large cup of twigs and grass, lined with soft materials, such as feathers and wool. The nest may be placed in a range of places from the ground up to about 15m. The female also incubates the eggs alone. Both sexes care for the young chicks.
Calls: Loud clucking and distinctive unmusical calls.
Minimum Size: 26cm
Maximum Size: 30cm
Average size: 28cm
Average weight: 62g
Breeding season: August to December most active, but can breed year round
Clutch Size: 1 to 3
Nestling Period: 16 days

Another scary dropoff in the Canyonlands near Moab, Utah. I'm going to say I hung back from the edge in order to capture the striations in the rock wall, but all I could hear at the time was "cluck, cluck, cluck," because I was so chicken. Taken on Jeff Clow's Dirt Cheap Photo Tour.
