Looking Close... on Friday: Eraser
(Not *my* work in progress, by the way. But a very cute work in progress. Oh, and of course I didn't erase the cat's paw, it hadn't been drawn yet. I would never do that to a poor kitty.)
RKO_3664. Close-up shot of a beautiful Bittern. Actually, I knew she was somewhere nearby in the reeds, but I couldn't find her due her camouflage feathers. Surprisingly the Bittern left the reeds (very relaxed) just in front of me allowing for some quick close-up shots.

Farming under the shadow of a National Monument. Devils Tower in Wyoming has been one of my favorite places to visit for years. Always reminds me of the Steven Spielberg 1977 movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
I do so love when wildlife chooses to come really close, and was thrilled to get such a great view of this beautiful red squirrel in Kilchrenan way back in 2013. However, it was slightly frustrating that it was so close that it wouldn't quite fit in the frame, and so I had to chop the tip of its lovely fluffy tail :(
The warbler was so close that I almost couldn't focus. I was able to crop the image to make a close-up portrait without losing very much detail.
The Samyang 6.3/300 mirror reflex lens (450mm on my camera sensor) is actually a long tele lens, but in my kind of photography it works very well for close-ups too. Fixed at F6.3, the lens allows me to focus on minute details.

This red winged blackbird took off near me, and headed toward another branch even closer. Zoom in for details of the water drops.
Our dog Fedya (1990-2005) and cats Myshka (1991-2008) and her son Vas'ka I (1992-2008). Vas'ka I was so attached to his mother that after her death from eye cancer, he also could not live, fell ill and died a few months later.

I couldn't resist posting one more edit from yesterday's photoshoot with the handsome, charming, hilariously funny, and very very patient Mr Nirrad Pond.
It was a pleasure working with you Nirrad; thankyou thankyou thankyou! I am in your dept :)
When I was at Jackson Bottom last weekend, this California Groundsquirrel was on a path ahead of me. it was reluctant to leave the path, so I just settled lower and took shots.

Great question for many of us when it comes to the final crop
Yes I did get the entire Owl in frame (inc. wings)
& Yes he was extremely close
But also 'yes' we've uploaded countless 'fly-by' Short Eared Owl shots recently
So an unconventionally close crop to create something
different
Good idea?
Bad idea?
There's no right answer
In the end it was just 'my idea'
"Why do birds suddenly appear
Every time you are near?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you"
This is not exactly what this Golden-headed Cisticola was singing, but close... (-;
(Cisticola exilis)
Stranded in the spooky town
Stop lights are swaying and the phone lines are down
The floor is crackling cold
She took my heart, I think she took my soul
With the moon I run
Far from the carnage of the fiery sun
Driven by the strangle of vein
Showing no mercy, I'd do it again
Open up your eyes
You keep on crying
Baby I'll bleed you dry
Skies are blinking at me
I see a storm bubbling up from the sea
And it's coming closer
And it's coming closer
Your shimmy shook my boat
Leaving me stranded all in love on my own
Do you think of me?
Where am I now
Baby where do I sleep?
It feels so good but I am old
2000 years of chasing taking its toll
And it's coming closer
And it's coming closer
