Shapes are two dimensional and forms are three, I was told. So these are shapes. Photo No. 1 of Study No. 5 - 2023 Shapes and Forms. Want to take a guess what this is if you have not seen it before? Answer: The "Ni" in Nike in a shop window turned sideways.

This week's theme for Mosaic Montage Monday was Clean Lines. Looks like it's a work in progress! HMMM!

I'm not kidding. That thing on the right is one of four ginormous plant pots each of them holding a tree.

Things you learn when attending a guided tour.

Sitting waiting for my flight home from a wonderful trip to Norway. This country is a photographers dream!!!!

a lone figure drifts through the mouth of architecture—swept along by light and curve, swallowed by silence, stitched to vanishing lines

her mind drifted outward, yet her hands held time still — like a quiet sculpture made of breath and thought.

they hold each other like punctuation against the vastness — a comma of tenderness in a sentence made of stone and sky. the architecture curves not toward shelter but toward meaning, and even the silence seems designed. here, light is a language, and emptiness speaks.

i stood inside the entrance of the centre pompidou málaga, looking out. the walls didn’t speak, but the shadows did. they whispered of the cube above—its colored plexiglass casting fractured reflections through the glazing, sketching abstract thoughts on concrete panels. this place shifts with the sun. it's never the same twice.

a figure emerges from the geometry of light, crossing an empty threshold where silence echoes louder than footsteps. the scene is cut from a quiet film, where the only action is movement and the only sound is imagined.

two figures appear only as reflections, stretched across angled panes of glass—disconnected yet connected, like fragments of thought. the architecture frames them not as subjects, but as echoes, as traces. in this abstract geometry, presence becomes illusion and light becomes storyteller.

Mosaic Montage Monday: Clean Lines

A travel photograph captures the clean lines and geometric forms of North African architecture against a clear blue sky. The white domes and ornate minaret create a striking contrast, resulting in a linear yet captivating composition. This image celebrates the beauty of simplicity and the unique architectural style of this Mediterranean region.

behind a perfect grid, motion turns into suggestion—two black marks, a blur of presence, an object in tow. time stretches thin behind translucent glass as the moment becomes more about pattern than person. this is not someone arriving or leaving, but simply existing within a frame that doesn’t care.

Curves not needed.

Harlingen, The Netherlands.

he stands on the edge of light, where the geometry of the city folds inward and silence speaks loudest. between shadow and grain, the branches remember. everything else is paper—held loosely, stepped upon, or quietly torn by time.

I have often passed this church on my travels through the town of Stalham, Norfolk, each time telling myself that I must stop and get some images of these clean and attractive geometric lines.

So this morning I did just that.

A frosty but bright morning with a clear Blue sky, perfect!

a fleeting presence etched in sunlight — the echo of someone just passing by. no face, no footsteps, only the soft weight of absence on a worn city wall.

it was midday, and the sun was high enough to sting but not burn. he leaned into the weight, his muscles straining against the resistance of steel and waste. the dumpster wasn’t just a job; it was a symbol of grit, of resilience. his cap turned backward, tattoos half-hidden, he pushed forward, step by step, carving a path against the ordinary. behind him, the lines of the fence rose clean and sharp, a backdrop of order against the chaos of labor. his struggle wasn’t monumental, but it was human, and in that, it was everything.

Taken last week in North Greenwich. A new lamp pole outside one of the new buildings recently built as a part of Ravensbourne University London. For any London photographers, if you haven't visited this area around the O2 arena for some time it's worth a visit. Lots of new architecture going up, some of it quite interesting.

The very popular Remo, the integrated handles allow for effortless opening of doors , whilst creating a streamlined uncluttered look. The gloss finish pictured here adds real impact to the overall look of the kitchen, whilst any fingerprints or spillages are easily wiped away. The pathway, lined with sleek, modern tiles and reflective inlays, leads the viewer’s eye upward toward the horizon where silhouetted signs and structures stand against a dramatic, cloud-streaked sky. The low sun, veiled behind a textured ceiling of clouds, casts a soft, amber hue over the scene, bringing out subtle contrasts between the wooden deck and the smooth stone. This minimalist, almost abstract composition evokes calm and contemplation — a modern interpretation of coastal serenity, where architecture and nature converge in golden silence

this is mark fearnley — someone whose work shaped the way i see lines, rhythm, and light on the street. he’s inspired countless photographers to look deeper, to shoot slower, and to embrace the poetry of everyday geometry. getting the chance to step behind the lens and capture him in this quiet moment was something special. a simple frame, but a meaningful one. proud to have taken this.

a narrow shaft of sunlight slices through the silence, catching a solitary figure mid-step. geometry and coincidence fall into alignment for just a breath, where movement meets shadow and time holds still.

At the end of the day this bird and the light made a great silhouette. Seen at the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch in Gilbert, Arizona, USA.

When I encountered this doorway, I was struck by its bold geometric simplicity and the strong interplay of colors. My goal was to capture the essence of modernist design principles through this seemingly simple entrance. I carefully composed the shot to emphasize the perfect symmetry of the white vertical bands against the green wall, while the rounded square frame creates a striking portal effect. I positioned myself to ensure the concrete steps at the bottom would ground the composition while maintaining the geometric harmony above. The soft, even lighting helped to preserve the subtle details and textures while maintaining the minimalist feel I was after. For me, this image represents the beautiful intersection of form and function in modern architecture, where even a simple doorway becomes a statement of design principles.

When composing this shot, I was drawn to the powerful interplay between architectural presence and empty space. I deliberately chose to frame the building fragment against the deep blue sky, allowing the void to become as important as the structure itself. The minimalist approach was intentional - by isolating this particular section of the building and emphasizing its clean white geometry against the rich blue background, I wanted to create something that exists between architectural documentation and abstract art. The time of day was crucial to achieve this specific blue tone that almost appears artificial in its depth and consistency. I was particularly interested in how the geometric lines of the building cut into this blue void, creating a dynamic tension between solid and empty space. The subtle textures in the white facade add just enough detail to maintain interest while preserving the overall minimalist aesthetic. This image represents my ongoing exploration of how architecture can be abstracted through careful framing and timing, transforming familiar urban structures into something more contemplative and ethereal.
