It’s rare to see a cypress tree all by itself. It looks lonely standing there mirrored by the calm surface. Surrounded by a brood of knees reminds me of a family of ducklings swimming around a mother duck, exploring the water while she cautiously keeps an alert eye for the threat of danger.
A view to St Abbs on a dull and windy day.
St Abbs is a small fishing village on the southeastern coast of Scotland, United Kingdom within the Coldingham parish of Berwickshire.
The village was originally known as Coldingham Shore, the name St Abbs being adopted in the 1890s. The new name was derived from St Abbs Head, a rocky promontory located to the north of the village, itself named after the 7th century saint Æbbe of Coldingham.
St Abbs was originally called Coldingham Shore. Prior to any buildings the fishermen who worked their boats from the beach resided at Fisher's Brae in Coldingham. These fishermen had to carry their fishing gear one and a half miles down a path to where their fishing vessels were tied up. The path is now known as the Creel Path; creel is the local name for a lobster pot.
The first building in St Abbs was constructed in about the middle of the 18th century followed later by a row of five cottages. This first row of houses was constructed in a traditional Scottish style with a central fire and a wide chimney. The walls were constructed of "clat and clay," a framework of wood interlaced with straw and daubed with moist clay.

During our recent visit to Scotland we stayed just outside Dunbar in East Lothian, just off the south-east coast. One place that we absolutely fell in love with was the tiny fishing village of St Abbs, which is about three miles north of Eyemouth.
St Abbs, which is within the Coldingham parish of Berwickshire (now Scottish Borders), was originally called Coldingham Shore. It was renamed in the late 19th century. Prior to any buildings the fishermen who worked their boats from the beach resided at Fisher's Brae in Coldingham. This first row of houses was constructed in a traditional Scottish style with a central fire and a wide chimney. The walls were constructed of "clat and clay," a framework of wood interlaced with straw and daubed with moist clay.
By 1832 it is recorded that the inhabitants of the village comprised 16 families who, with 20 others residing in Coldingham, made their living by fishing. In addition to these residents, 30 people proceeded annually to the north for the herring fishing season, which provided employment for 14 boats from the village.
It is located in the heart of the San Carlos neighborhood, in the Plaza de Argüelles. The building with the four towers has a baroque layout, a rectangular floor plan and its facades concentrate the decoration in the corners based on paired pilasters with overlapping orders. These towers form, without a doubt, the most accomplished and most monumental of all the towers built in Cádiz.
In this square stands the monument to General Francisco de Miranda, known as the Precursor of American Emancipation.

Who wants that perfect love story any way, anyway
Cliché, cliché, cliché, cliché
Who wants that hero love that saves the day, anyway
Cliché, cliché, cliché, cliché
What about the bad guy goes good, yeah
An innocent love un-misunderstood, yeah
Black hour glass, hour glass
Toast to cliché is in a dark past
Toast to cliché is in a dark past
Boy meets girl, girl perfect woman
Girl get the bustin' before the cops come running
Chunking deuces, chugging D'USSE
Fuck what you say, boys in blue say
I don't care if we on the run
Baby as long as I'm next to you
And if loving you is a crime
Tell me why do I bring out
The best in you
I hear sirens while we make love
Loud as hell but they don't know
They're nowhere near us
I will hold your heart and your gun
I don't care if they come, no
I know it's crazy but
They can take me
Now that I found the places that you take me
Without you I got nothing to lose
I'm an outlaw, got an outlaw chick
Bumping 2Pac, on my outlaw shit
Matching tatts, this Ink don't come off
Even if rings come off
If things ring off
My nails get dirty
My past ain't pretty, my lady is, my Mercedes is
My baby momma harder than a lot of you niggas
Keep it 100, hit the lottery niggas
You ain't about that life ain't gotta lie to me, nigga
You know it's 'til the death, I hope it's obvi to niggas
Cross the line, speak about mine
I'm a wave this tech, I'm a geek about mine
Touch a nigga where his rib at, I click clat
Push your motherfucking wig back, I did that
I been wilding since a juvi
She was a good girl 'til she knew me
Now she is in the drop bussin' U'e
Screaming...
[Hook]
Deeper than words, beyond right
Die for your love, beyond life
Sweet as a Jesus piece, beyond ice
Blind me baby with your neon lights
Ray Bans on, police in sight
Oh, what a beautiful death
Let's both wear white
If you go to heaven and they bring me to hell
Just sneak out and meet me, bring a box of L's
She fell in love with the bad guy, the bad guy
What you doing with them rap guys, them rap guys
They ain't see potential in me girl, but you see it
If it's me and you against the world, then so be it
I don't care if they give me life
I get all of my life from you
And if loving you had a price
I would pay my life for you
[Bridge]
I don't care I'll never give it up
Give it up, give it up, give it all away
No I swear I'll never give it up
Give it up, give it up, give it all away
I don't care I'll never give it up
Give it up, give it up, give it all away
No I swear I'll never give it up
Give it up, give it up, give it all away
Without you I got nothing to lose

Earthen houses represent a vernacular architecture specific to Jiangxi, Fujian and Guangdong provinces following the flow of the Hakka people from central China to the South. As most Hakka resided in mountains, communal houses made of compacted earth were built to provide protection against bandits and wild animals. The older examples of this style of construction consist of interior buildings enclosed by huge peripheral ones holding hundreds of rooms and dwellers. With all the halls, storehouses, wells and bedrooms inside, the huge towerlike building functions almost as a small fortified city. Earthen houses are made of earth, stone, bamboo and wood, all readily available materials. After constructing the walls with rammed earth, branches, strips of wood and bamboo chips were laid in the wall as "bones" to reinforce it. The end result is a well lit, well-ventilated, windproof, quakeproof building that is warm in winter and cool in summer.
Over twenty thousand of these houses still stand today, ten of which are over 600 years old. The oldest one, “Fu Xing Lou” in Hu Le town, was constructed over 1,200 years ago and is regarded as a “living fossil” of the construction style of central China. The tulou located at the border of Yongding County and Nanjing County is the perfect example of this style of construction and it is here that there are most earthen houses. Most of the nominated properties are located in this area.

I was in Clat Adams Park to photograph the bridge with a local restaurant by request when I happened upon these two women. One was sketching, the other painting Quincy's beautiful Bayview Bridge. They were gracious enough to allow me to photograph them while they worked. Thank you ladies!

I shot this image a couple weeks ago in Clat Adams Park in Quincy, IL. The cone flowers were just full of bumble bees and I was snapping away. When I got home to the computer I found several decent images of the bumble bees but this one had a winged invader. What a treat. :)
Have a great week and thanks for stopping by.

The village was renamed at the end of the 19th century by the then-laird, Andrew Usher, who played a major role in improving the fishing village and harbour.[1] Usher purchased the Northfield estate on the edge of the village, enlarging and finishing the building of a countryside manor by the coastal shore in 1892. He considered the local public hall inadequate and subsequently funded a new village hall and school, which was constructed in 1887 and is now occupied by the St Abbs visitor centre. Usher also gave funds for the building of the local church in 1892 and the extension of the outer harbour wall in 1890.
In November 1907 the Member of Parliament (MP) for Berwickshire, Harold Tennant, announced that the Royal National Lifeboat Society had agreed to supply St Abbs with a lifeboat, and that the Board of Trade had also agreed to place life-saving apparatus at St Abbs as soon as possible.
