I haven't seen a decent sunset for some time, there always seems to be a bank of low cloud sitting over Devon. It had been a wonderful afternoon, with not a breath of wind to stir the surface of the rock pools . Even the fish were behaving themselves. It was just the best place to be at that moment of time, as the sky slowly took on hints of purple and pink :)) I absentmindedly wandered across the beach in a euphoric state, checking out the various rocks for possibilities. I then realised i hadn't done a sunset in my immersing myself in

nature series. So Citizen of Glass by Agnes Obel it is, I'm hoping I'm almost transparent :)))

Spiral staircase at the Citizen M hotel in Southwark, South London.

Thanks to Sean Batten for sharing a map of spiral staircases across London.

Looking forward to seeing you on YouTube on the 5th December when I'll upload a video of some of my best photos to my channel, Sights and Scenes.

Captured on a quiet street during a quiet Saturday afternoon.

ENG: The Pankow Citizens' Park is a 12 hectare park area along the Panke (small river) in Berlin. It was renovated as a country estate in 1864 and acquired by the community of Pankow in 1907. The public green area offers a lot of recreation, playgrounds or a small library as well as a beer garden and is located in the immediate vicinity of the Pankow Town Hall in the district of Pankow. But the park is without direct connection to the special train to Pankow. 😀

What I want to challenge people so limited in thinking that they want every country to only include rich white wealthy folks is not just how much we benefit from an exchange of ideas but also how everyone is a citizen of the world and if we do not work together in terms of conserving resources and combatting climate change, that world will cease to exist for everyone but Elon Musk orbiting forever in his rocket ship. So, if you are reading this and you aren’t Elon Musk, start asking yourself what you can do as a citizen of the world and stop falling prey to ideas manufactured by the government to keep you hateful and distracted from what really matters. They say there is never money for the environment or for refugees but as soon as people need to be killed in war, they always seem to find some serious cash in the government couch cushions.

Excuse me, have you seen any ununsual ongoings?

Unusual? As in things I wouldn't want to happen? No officer, nothing of the sort!

But you look like...

Definitely not, officer! We're honest, law avoiding citizens!

Karl-Marx-Hof is a municipal residential complex with 1382 apartments in Heiligenstadt, a neighbourhood of the 19th district of Vienna, Döbling. It was built in the years 1927-30.

Karl-Marx-Hof is a so-called Gemeindebau, which is the German word for "municipality building" (pl. Gemeindebauten). It`s one of the best-known Gemeindebauten in Vienna.

"Gemeindebauten have become an important part of the architecture and culture of Vienna since the 1920s. Up to 1918, the housing conditions of Vienna's growing working class were appalling by modern standards. When the Social Democratic Party of Austria gained control of the municipal administration during Austria's First Republic (1918-1934) (so called "Red Vienna"), it began the project of improving living conditions for workers. A large number of Gemeindebauten, usually large residential estates, were built during that time. Including those buildings that were finished after the events of February 1934, 64,000 apartments where completed, which created housing space for about 220,000 people. Apartments were assigned on the basis of a point system favoring families and less affluent citizens.

The classic interwar Gemeindebauten typically have a main entrance with a large gate, through which one enters into a yard. Inside, there are trees and some greenery, where children can play without having to go out on the street. Apartments are accessed from the inside.

This fortress-like structure made the buildings adaptable to military use. Several Gemeindebauten in Vienna, most notably the Karl-Marx-Hof, were sites of fighting during the Austrian Civil War of February 1934, when they were defended as Social Democratic Party strongholds." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemeindebau

Where, where is the town

Now, it's nothing but flowers

Were sacrificed for agriculture

I thought that we'd start over

But I guess I was wrong

Some unknown Cream City citizen stuck a fake flower in the fencing enclosing the pedestrian stairs from Greves Street to the tall 27th Street Viaduct, and I thought it made for a nice impromptu photo prop, symbolism implied or not. "Yay! Another spiral staircase" I hear you shout, It is but this is one of my favourites from my trip to London last week.

This lovely spiral is in the Bankside Citizen M hotel in Southwark. I didn't set up any appointments for this one, I just walked in and spoke to the girl at the desk and she was more than happy for me to spend a bit of time to get the photos I wanted. It's a fun and challenging location to shoot at as there isn't much room underneath the staircase and it involves a bit of crawling around on the floor.

I set up my camera on my mini tripod and with the omnidirectional screen on my camera I was able to find my composition without breaking my back in the process.

citizenM is a Netherlands based hotel chain. It opened its first hotel at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in 2008, followed by one in city of Amsterdam itself in 2009. Its first overseas hotel in Glasgow opened in 2010, followed by one in London in 2012.

The staircase itself was built in Leiden in Holland and then shipped over to the UK and installed into the hotel.

The Royse City Lodge #663 A.F. & A.M. (constructed circa 1925) is the most substantial and intact property in the central business district of Royse City. Designed by W.A. Kimzey, believed to be from Greenville, Texas, and constructed by J.E. Harris of Royse City, the Lodge is a handsome 2-story building that borrows architectural elements from the Mission Revival style. The property is one of the few architect designed buildings in the community and is recognized locally as a significant architectural element in the context of Royse City. The property initially served only fraternal activities of the local Masonic Lodge, but in 1936 officials of Royse City leased the first floor for the first city hall and fire & police station. Royse City purchased the first floor in 1941 and continues to use the building for those purposes.

The history of the Lodge and the City are intertwined since the very early days. At least three mayors, Newt Burton (1938-1944), Roy Cookston (1944-1950), and R.M. James (1954-1957) were members of the Lodge. Many of the towns Aldermen also have been Lodge members. The Lodge building also has a long and respected history in Royse City, Texas. Every citizen of Royse City has utilized the building for some purpose, either fraternal or political. Many of the other buildings were destroyed in a devastating fire in the 1930's and this building, in its dual role, has continued to serve the needs of every citizen of Royse City for a century. No other building has greater significance to the community or has been occupied by the original owners since its construction.

On October 28, 1994, the Royse City Masonic Lodge was recognized as eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) under criterion C for its architecture and criterion A for its social history & continued use by residents for government & political purposes at a local level. All of the information above was found on the original documents that can be viewed here:

Questionable... 🤔

I'm ending the year with a slight reworking of one of my favourite photos taken back in the Summer. This spiral stair can be found in the Bankside Citizen M hotel, for this version I've cloned away a steel support to make the image more abstract.
