Built on top of a rock overlooking the town, the citadel of Corte is one of Corsica's most spectacular fortifications
Swapped loads with another driver this morning. He needed to go home and the load I had would get him closer to home than the load he was on. Fortunately we would be crossing paths in Moriarty, New Mexico. His load was going to Ogden, Utah, so with the swap I'll deliver the Ogden load tomorrow and then go home and not be back on the road until Tuesday. Pretty lucky for both of us.
This picture was taken in New Mexico about 35 miles from Shiprock, NM. This castle like formation is right off US-491. I've driven by in many times, but always during at time of the day when the light was terrible and or either overcast, or cloudless. Well today was about as good of conditions as I could ask for.
Oh, my hip is better, still sore, but getting better. Thanks for all the kind words about the injury, I appreciate all of you.
This rock formation stands like a citadel at the top of Jacob's Ladder. In these wet and misty conditions it really does look like a fortress protecting the upper reaches of Ben Lomond.
The School on the Hill (Romanian: Școala din deal; German: Bergschule) is an educational institution in Sighișoara, Romania. It is located next to the covered wooden Stairs, bears Schola Seminarium Republicae and is dated 1619. Its formal name is the Joseph Haltrich High School (Liceul Teoretic Joseph Haltrich).
The school was first mentioned in a document from 1522, which referred to a rector scholae with the academic degree of baccalaureus, to whom the City Council offered a coat worth four guilders for his merits and "to try his best with the youngsters".
As Lesk Alzael describes her SIM creation ►The Citadel is a lost paradise. In the shadow of a high reed.
Citadel - The early mist burns off Loch Awe revealing the medieval ruined citadel of Kilchurn Castle catching the early dawn light reflected in the supremely still waters of the loch.
A wonderful and inspiring sight at any time, especially so when conditions are as superb as this.

A stone Citadel was built on the Pigeon Island (Guvercin Ada) during the Byzantine Empire. The Island is now connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway. The Citadel was used as a defensive outpost through the years.
Today the Citadel is host to the lighthouse, a restaurant, and a nightclub, and is a popular local hang-out.

A view across the rooftops of the Cité de Carcassonne towards the Chateau Comtal. A UNESCO world heritage site in Occitania, France.
A pretty standard view, but the swoosh of colour surrounded by the darkness of this night-time scene at Carlisle Citadel Station caught my eye. A southbound TPE Nova 2 unit pauses at platform 4 with a Manchester Airport bound service. A long exposure, 1.6 seconds employed to achieve F16, and the starburst effect on those painfully bright headlights. Tuesday 14.12.21.

Landskrona Citadel or Landskrona Castle is a fortress in Landskrona, Skåne County.
The citadel is one of the Nordic region's best-preserved water fortresses from the 16th century with a well-preserved moat system. It has also been a prison. Here is both an old dungeon and a prison tower.
The Danish king Christian III decided in 1549 to build a fortress in Landskrona. It was built over a period of just over 10 years as a square castle with four towers and a surrounding moat.
After Landskrona became Swedish, the fortress was strengthened very strongly and in 1667-75 the external defense system was built with the large bastioned earth walls.
