Phil student who has been under suspension since April 22 for voicing his concern at the draconian measure. "One never thought things would come to such a pass in AMU," he said. .

The issue is expected to figure prominently in the meeting convened by the AMU Old Boys Association and AMU Old Girls Association on June 19. Meanwhile, charging Azis with unleashing a rein of terror on the campus, a delegation of AMU court is slated to meet President Pratibha Patil this month, Wasim Ahamd, former MP Aligarh and member of university court told TOI on Saturday. "Students are no terrorist and each of them is feeling oppressed, thanks to the security circus," he said. .

"Apart from being highly objectionable, AMU becomes the first university to put its student under watch. The security paraphernalia also points to the extent of financial irregularities the university administration is involved in," he said, adding "the V-C has cleverly skirted executive council in the matter and went ahead with purchases." .

AMU PRO Dr Rahat Abrar however challenges the contention and claims that the executive council not only sanctioned the security devices but even suggested deployment of CISF on the campus."The arrangement aims at deterring trespassers and criminals from invading AMU and is vital for ensuring security and safety of all --even those who are needlessly opposing it," he said. .

Once Again State Machinery Bares its Fangs.

.

Condemn the Killing of 18-year old Altaf by CISF Personnel!.

.

New Year in Kashmir was ushered in with the brutal murder of an 18-year old student, Altaf Ahmed.

.

Sood, who was shot dead in Boniyar (in Uri town, Kashmir) by CISF personnel a few days back..

His `crime'? He was protesting, along with several others, against power scarcity in the area..

Altaf now adds to the long list of people killed by indiscriminate and completely unprovoked firing.

by `security' forces in Kashmir. Yet another brutal remainder of how the entire state machinery in.

Kashmir deals with common people demanding their basic rights..

.

Altaf was fired at twice in the chest, while two others were injured and have bullet marks on.

their arm and face. The CISF is now predictably trying its level best to justify this inexcusable.

firing on peaceful protesters. CISF Director General N R Das has come up with several bizarre.

and condemnable lies and half truths - the protests are being portrayed as a serious `law and.

order problem' that warranted strong action. According to the CISF, they were "outnumbered" and.

that a "rampaging" crowd of several hundred people tried to forcibly enter the NHPC premises in.

Uri to vandalise and set fire to it. Several eyewitnesses have said that this `official' account.

of the incident is completely false. The protest was against the frequent power cuts in the.

area; there was NO attempt to damage the NHPC plant. Moreover, at the time of the firing, most.

of the protestors had moved away from the NHPC site and had gone to the Tehsil office Boniyar.

to discuss their demands with the officials. Only some 100 protestors were left behind, that too.

on the main road near the NHPC office, not even inside the premises..

.

More shamefully, according to CISF, it has merely followed "standard operating.

procedures' in curbing the protests. So now, it has become "standard operating procedure".

for the CISF to kill common people! Last September, a circular issued by CISF deputy inspector.

general Shikha Goel asked all units of the CISF not to wait for the arrival of the police and to.

take "any step" to safeguard the security of an installation "threatened" by "mob violence". This.

draconian circular is now being cited as the "reason" behind the firing in Uri. And after this brutal.

daylight murder, the CISF is not just justifying its role, it is also claiming immunity from prosecution.

by citing AFSPA..

.

The brutal murder of Altaf is not the first instance of the UPA's attempts to shield.

.

"security" personnel who have committed murder. To quote just another example, troops.

.

under the command of the 53 Infantry Brigade murdered three residents of Nadihal village - the.

.

defence ministry refused to sanction the prosecution of the military personnel involved. Every time.

.

the people of Kashmir raise their voices in protest, demanding even basic rights, they are met.

.

with bullets and lathis, with false charges, arrests and detentions by the army and paramilitary.

.

forces. This is the reality of "normal" life in Kashmir! People are summarily murdered in.

.

broad daylight, or else they are accused of being "terrorists", and killed in police detention or in.

.

"encounters". In the face of massive protests from the people, `enquiries' are ordered. However,.

.

nothing has ever come out of most of the `probes', and the murderers roam about scot free,.

The state wise break-up of Muslim representation in government jobs is given in Table B. The situation is particularly grim in the states of Assam, West Bengal, UP and Bihar. Delhi and Maharashtra also fare poorly. Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have a better record than the other states in this regard. As far as Muslim representation in jobs in PSUs is concerned, Kerala and Karnataka have a better record than the other states. West Bengal, UP, Delhi and Maharashtra have poor representation of Muslims in PSU jobs, especially in the higher positions. .

Condemn the Killing of 18-year old Altaf by CISF Personnel in Kashmir! .

New Year in Kashmir started with the cold-blooded murder of 18-year old Altaf Ahmed Sood, who was shot dead in Boniyar (Baramulla, Kashmir) by CISF personnel a few days back. His crime? He was standing by the people protesting against power scarcity in the area. It is high time that we recognise how it has become routine for the Indian state to address Kashmiri people's protest even on such issues as power shortage with such mindless repression and bullets. And now, after this brutal daylight murder, the CISF is not just justifying its role, it is also claiming immunity from prosecution! .

AISA strongly condemns this murder, demands immediate and exemplary action against those officials responsible. AISA stands by the demands of the struggling people of Kashmir for their basic democratic rights to defend their life and livelihoods, and against the imposition of the AFSPA and other ACTs allowing security forces to perpetrate massacres with full impunity. .

The protesting farmers, under the aegis of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ekta) Ugrahan group, have been gathering at the village gurdwara since Monday. Today, the village turned into a virtual battleground when a mob of about 2,000 farmers armed with lathis and other sharp-edged weapons marched towards the disputed land around 2.30 pm, shouting slogans against the government. The 600-strong posse of security personnel, including Punjab Police commandos and CISF personnel, first used lathis and burst tear-gas shells before firing several rounds of plastic bullets at the farmers to prevent them from entering the Trident complex. .

At least 25 farmers and seven policemen were injured in the free-for-all on the outskirts of this village. While many farmers were rushed to Dhanaula Civil hospital, a few were referred to Government Rajindra hospital in Patiala. .

Later, many of them, some with blood oozing from their wounds, once again gathered at the gurdwara, where they are now sitting on an indefinite dharna. Decrying the use of force by the authorities and charging them with supporting the Trident group, BKU (Ekta) president Joginder Singh Ugrahan and general secretary Sukhdev Singh Kokrikalan said: We will continue our indefinite dharna till we get back the farmers land. We will not be frightened by the use of force. .

While Deputy Commissioner Surjit Singh Dhillon said the situation is under control now, and precautionary measures are continuing, Barnala SSP Naresh Arora said at least seven police personnel have received injuries during the clash. .

Later, SAD(A) leader Simranjit Singh Mann came to visit the agitating farmers along with SAD leader Daljit Singh Bittu. Condemning the incident, he accused SAD(Badal) of not coming to the farmers aid. .
