"The Cisco Landing Store was once a gathering place. Residents and farmers met here to swap stories and get the latest gossip."
"For a brief time in the 1920s, Cisco enjoyed a boom with the oil and gas industry. Oil was discovered here in 1924, and Cisco grew to be the largest producer of oil in the state. In the 1940s, people began taking road trips in their cars and Cisco was a popular place to stop for a meal."
"In the 1970s, Interstate 70 was built, and it bypassed Cisco. Without drivers stopping to spend money, and with the gas and oil gone, Cisco quickly became a ghost town. People moved out, and the post office closed. Today, Cisco is left rotting in the vast, empty desert." www.onlyinyourstate.com
Cisco, Utah (also called Cisco Landing) is virtually a ghost town south of Interstate 70 on the ‘scenic’ route to Moab, Utah from the Colorado – Utah border. I had visited this spot about 10 years ago and wanted to shoot there again with better equipment than I had at the time so our road trip provided me the ideal opportunity to revisit the site. Not only does it feature some interesting derelict buildings, but it seems to be a temporary dumping spot for highway wrecks, cars, campers, trucks, etc. and is quite accessible. Cisco’s location pretty much assures that it is bypassed by most people since the direct road there is in less-than-pristine condition, rarely visited and as a result it is a great place for photography, provided you like abandoned buildings and wrecks and keep your eyes peeled for rattlesnakes. This image is of the interior of the derelict Cisco Landing General Store rear, or what remains of it. - JW

Taken using a tripod-mounted Nikon D7100 fitted with a Nikkor 12-24mm lense set to 19mm, ISO100, Auto WB, Aperture priority mode, f/8.0, 1/100 sec with an EV+0.33 exposure bias. PP in free Open Source RAWTherapee from Nikon RAW/NEF source file: scale image to 9000x6000, set exposure to 1/2 stop above as-shot, slightly increase contrast and Chromaticity in L-A-B mode, increase vibrance slightly, slightly increase the colour temperature (warmer), sharpen, save. PP in free Open Source GIMP: set up the image on three layers so each can be used with masks to isolate areas to edit without impacting other areas, top layer is named ‘interior brush’, middle layer is labeled ‘exterior’, bottom layer is labeled ‘interior, use the threshold tool on a copy of the base image to isolate the areas outside the windows and doors and copy this to the mask portion of the middle/exterior layer, add a layer mask to the interior brush layer and then manually paint a white area to cover the brush pile area of the interior lower right, adjust the exterior layer main area to get good tonality and contrast of the outside areas, adjust contrast, tonality and saturation of the bottom/interior layer to get a good representation of the interior of the ruin, then adjust the contrast and brightness of the interior brush layer to make it stand out better, create new working layer from visible result, adjust overall contrast slightly and then adjust colour balance to remove a slight gree cast, sharpen, save, scale image to 6000 wide, sharpen slightly, add fine black-and-white frame, add bar and text on left, save, scale image to 1800 wide for posting, sharpen slightly, save.
