I was walking around the Don Jose LRT station yesterday when I saw an alley full of vendors selling "tikoy"- then I realized Chinese New Year is coming :D

So, I follow the path of the vendors until I saw this fountain in front of China Town :)

(Tikoy (Nian gao), sometimes translated as year cake or Chinese New Year's cake, is a food prepared from glutinous rice flour and consumed in Chinese cuisine. While it can be eaten all year round, traditionally it is most popular during Chinese New Year)

Wikipedia: The Chinese pond heron (Ardeola bacchus) is an East Asian freshwater bird of the heron family, (Ardeidae). It is one of six species of birds known as "pond herons" (genus Ardeola). It is parapatric (or nearly so) with the Indian pond heron (A. grayii) to the west and the Javan pond heron (A. speciosa) to the south, and these three are presumed to form a superspecies. As a group they are variously affiliated with the squacco heron (A. ralloides) or the Malagasy pond heron (A. idae).

Chinese Sparrowhawk, Accipiter soloensis, Lang Rajawali

It breeds in Southeast China, Taiwan, Korea and Siberia. But winters in Indonesia and Philippines, passing through the rest of Southeast Asia, including Malaysia. Rare opportunity for me to get a shot, one evening after a heavy rainfall.

The community is keeping this slowly disappearing art alive, troupes play regularly throughout the year on small stages and temple events and every night on major events, as here during the Vegetarian Festival.

Here is also a different shot of the same actor shot a few years ago in the same temple.

The Chinese moon moth or Chinese luna moth (Actias dubernardi) from parts of southern China is an immensely attrative moth with long trailing "tails".

The wingspan is 90-150mm and the tailspan is 90-140mm.

The wings are almost translucent pale-green, that curve down into a dark pink swallow tail. The wings have small "eye spots" and usually a pink or purple edge. The moth resembles the Indian moon moth (Actias Selene), which has shorter tails.

The lifespan of an Chinese moon mothis only about 1-2 weeks and throughout the whole of this period they do not eat anything, and indeed, the Chinese moon moth does not even have a mouth, so has to depend on its reserves of fat stored up when it was a caterpillar. During the daytime they remain motionless, at night they fly quite strongly.

Picture is taken in the Passiflorahoeve (Harskamp, the Netherlands).

The striking exterior of the National Swimming Center , being constructed for the 2008 Olympic Games and nicknamed, the "Water Cube," is made from panels of a lightweight form of Teflon that transforms the building into an energy-efficient greenhouse-like environment. Solar energy will also be used to heat the swimming pools, which are designed to reuse double-filtered, backwashed pool water that's usually dumped as waste.

Excess rainwater will also be collected and stored in subterranean tanks and used to fill the pools. The complex engineering system of curvy steel frames that form the structure of the bubble-like skin are based on research into the structural properties of soap bubbles by two physicists at Dublin 's Trinity College . The unique structure is designed to help the building withstand nearly any seismic disruptions.
