Chili powder (also spelled chile, chilli, or, alternatively, powdered chili) is the dried, pulverized fruit of one or more varieties of chili pepper, sometimes with the addition of other spices (where it is also sometimes known as chili powder blend or chili seasoning mix).[1] It is used as a spice (or spice blend) to add pungency (piquancy) and flavor to culinary dishes. In American English, the spelling is usually "chili"; in British English, "chilli" (with two "l"s) is used consistently.

Chili powder is used in many different cuisines, including American (particularly Tex-Mex), Chinese, Indian, Bangladeshi, Korean, Mexican, Portuguese, and Thai. A chili powder blend is the primary flavor in American chili con carne.[1]

Smile on Saturday#Spices and condiments

These are dried herbs. To keep the color on them for a long time, I pick whole branches with leaves and let them hang upside down in a dark, dry place with plenty of fresh air. In the jars at the top of the picture are dried leaves, then I pick only the leaves but they fade quickly, the taste and smell remain the same. These are rosemary, sage and thyme from my garden.

Macro Mondays "Double Exposure"

Length of chili pepper: 5,5 cm / 2,16 inches; flame/candle: original size

I would have preferred to mask out the candle and only use the flame with the chili, because somehow I didn't think of taking the chili photo on a neutral surface / background, but felt that it would be cheating. The chili capture was taken in the kitchen (where else...), the pattern in the foreground (and some of the bokeh in the upper part, overlayed with the candle's wax) is from the kitchen worktop which is dark blueish-grey with a white marble-ish pattern. Actually the chili looks nice with that background, overlayed with the candle's wax (yellowish background), however, it's a little too busy, I think. As it was rather late, I decided to use the chili capture anyway, as I'd spent some time to get the flame kind of right (right size and position).

Both captures were developed in ON1 Photo RAW 2018. In

Photoshop I used "hard light" with 100 % opacity as a blending mode for the candle layer. The final processing touch was done in Analog Efex, where I added a square vignette.

A Happy Macro Monday Everyone ;-)

Yes, we have no bananas, but this shot of dried chili peppers in Budapest--they say paprika--is my only unpublished photo of fruit. Like tomatoes, chilis are not usually though of as fruit, but by definition--red things that are tasty when dried--they are.

Theme: Flag Unflagged"

The flag of the Malian people!

The flag of Mali consists of three vertical stripes of equal width. The left stripe is green, the middle one is yellow, and the right one is red. All three colors have important meanings for the Malian people.

Green represents prosperity, fertility, and hope. Yellow is the symbol of the country's wealth, representing the golden sand of the desert and the hot sun that shines on Mali. Red symbolizes the blood shed by national heroes during the struggles for independence and freedom.

Rista of red hot chili peppers. Ristras are the strings of chile you see hanging along fences, on patios and on portals all over the American Southwest.. In the Fall, you can buy ristras at farmer's markets and roadside stands. Ristras are sometimes used for decoration, and are said to bring good health and good luck.

Boxes of hot green chili peppers for sale at farmers' market.

Rose-ringed Parakeets are native to Kerala, but while on a walk in Kerala I noticed this Rose-ringed Parakeet that was unfortunately in a cage. It was being fed red hot chili peppers, which struck me as cruel punishment. I then read that birds do not have the ability to sense capsaicin, the active ingredient in chili peppers, and so they enjoy eating them, and are efficient at dispersing chili pepper seeds.

David Julius at the University of California, San Francisco, won the Nobel Prize in 2021 for figuring out how the body senses capsaicin and other pain-inducing stimuli.

Found in my garden today. Except that I don't have a garden ;) So you've guessed it, it's a strange thing from my kitchen which, once plucked, filled my living room with the tantalising scent of garlic. Did I say tantalising? It certainly was very strong ;) Quickly "grown" today with the help of that very effective fertiliser called deadline. So this is by no means perfect, neither perfectly arranged nor perfectly sharp – and the only excuses I have for this are, a) the aforementioned time pressure, and, b) that I wanted to check out the 50 MP handheld high-res mode of my camera. Well, and at least when it comes to the latter, I'm pretty impressed. So we have: carrot slices, garlic slices, a radish slice, and a chili pepper "nose", arranged on a white cutting board, and processed in DXO PhotoLab 4, DXO FilmPack (Fuji Astia 100F) and Analog Efex (Vignette).

And thank you very much, dear setoboonhong, for providing the flower's ID: It's the very rare Radigarlicarrochipepp :)))

According to the nursery rhyme, "Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers". These are not pickled peppers, but freshly picked Thai chilies, some of the hottest peppers around and consumed in mass quantities in Thailand. This farmer had ran out of gas and had just placed a call to his friends for some help. For a little bit of fun some interesting links are added:

'red & spicy' On Black or see my set "in my kitchen!

The chicken descended from above, arms stretched toward an unseen sky, as if caught in a dramatic final act. Suspended in midair, yellow feathers swirled around it like echoes of a lost past. Below, the stage was set—ripe tomatoes, fiery chilies, fragrant herbs, and the unmistakable scent of paprika, waiting to embrace their fated guest.

István swirled his glass of white wine, watching the slow descent. “Even in flight, you cannot escape tradition,” he mused, reaching for the spice that would seal its destiny.

Tonight, Magyar paprikás csirke would be made with theatrical flair.
