For Steam Sunday here's another recent one from my trip down to Pennsylvania for the best steam show in the east.
This trip was the fourth Iron Horse Ramble of the 2025 season and the second to travel from Nesquehoning north over the Lehigh Division mainline to Pittston, this time to coincide with the annual tomato festival in the latter town. The sold out 14 car train consisted of a HEP generator car, five standard coaches, a diner, two crown class coaches, two dome cars, two pullman sleepers, and two private OCS cars for owner and president Andy Muller Jr. and his guests. Leading the train is RBMN 2102 a 4-8-4 which was built in the Reading Company's own shops in 1945 using parts from a former 76-foot Class I-10sa consolidation 1923 Baldwin locomotive. The RDG created a fleet of 30 middleweight engines in the T-1 series capable of both freight and passenger assignments.
Here is the return trip back to Nesquehoning just a few minutes after its 5 PM departure from Pittston. The train has made a big horseshoe through the backyards of the Wyoming Valley and is now oriented southwest offering perfect light. They are charging past the signal through the interlocking at MP MC175.5 on modern day Reading and Northern's Lehigh Division Mainline, the former Lehigh Valley Railroad freight mainline. This interlocking marks the division point between the Lehigh Division main and the Susquehanna Branch and also guarded the crossovers and connecting track to Norfolk Southern's Sunbury Line main which is out of sight less than 200 ft to the left. This connection dates from 1973 and provided a direct link from the former Delaware and Hudson (modern day NS) and Lehigh Valley (modern day RBMN) mainlines and was used for decades to provide D&H and later CP access via trackage rights to Newark and Philadelphia. Alas when CP sold half of the D&H to NS their trains disappeared forever, and then in 2019 NS rerouted their last thru train when the Allentown hump yard was shuttered as a result of PSR driven changes and today nothing uses this connection.

Brown bear catching a quick nap on the sandy beach along the lake. When they are active ... they are quite on the move all of the time, however, when it's time for a "bear nap", they sure look like they have the ability to unwind quickly. They also look so content and peaceful during their beauty rest. My granddaughter calls her nap time "re-charging" ... and that's just what they seem to do. Don't they just seem quite snuggly? LOL. Of course, I would never test that observation and thought. ;-)
This image will conclude my "Bear Week" of a few of my images from my 2022 trip to Katmai ... my "happy place" for sure. I hope that you've enjoyed it. There will be many more images to come, so stay tuned.
Happy Monday!

This Great spangled fritillary was sampling one of the many Purple coneflowers in the garden. It allowed several profile shots before it moved along to other sources of pollen.
With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating and stay safe! ❤️❤️❤️
By August 1998, Union Pacific had been in charge of Southern Pacific's Shasta Route for almost two years. Aside from the UP C40-8 bracketed by the two SP SD70Ms, this photo on the Dry Canyon viaduct near Hotlum, California could have been taken pre-merger. For a few years after UP's acquisition, most of the manifest traffic on the I-5 corridor was handled by ex-SP power. The UP GE is an interesting sight - a decade earlier it was the latest and greatest power, while today it's just another six-axle motor.
The excess height boxcars, used for paper loading, strongly suggest that most of this train will be turned over to Willamette & Pacific at Eugene, Oregon. In 1998, WPRR had major paper facilities online at Newberg and Toledo. The mill at Newberg was closed in 2016. Although the Toledo plant is still active, traffic today for Portland & Western is less than it was when this Kodachrome was exposed.

Charging Bull, sometimes referred to as the Bull of Wall Street or the Bowling Green Bull, is a bronze sculpture that stands on Broadway just north of Bowling Green in the Financial District of Manhattan in New York City. The 7,100-pound (3,200 kg) bronze sculpture, standing 11 feet (3.4 m) tall and measuring 16 feet (4.9 m) long, depicts a bull, the symbol of financial optimism and prosperity. Charging Bull is a popular tourist destination that draws thousands of people a day, symbolizing Wall Street and the Financial District.
Yesterday, I attended a protest in Chicago because of the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict. Rittenhouse murdered two protestors at a Black Lives Matter rally in Wisconsin last summer with an assault rifle he was too young to even own and claimed as a white entitled piece of crap that he was "in fear of his life." The judge and jury sided with him.
I attended 15 Black Lives Matter rallies just a state away in Chicago, Illinois in that summer and none of them were violent. In fact, most of the footage I've seen of people "looting" at different protests in my country has been white opportunists who took advantage of the protests.
Here, we have two sides of the story of America. In Washington, Trump made sure Black Lives Matters protestors were tear gassed just before proselytizing with his upside down Bible. (It's ok, Trump-we know you don't really care what a Black Jesus had to tell people, anyway). In some states in this country, it is actually legal to hit protestors with your car...just make sure they aren't protesting against wearing masks, getting vaccinated, actually counting votes, or against a woman's right to choose things for her body. The police seem to love protecting those people. (Several of our police unions also don't feel the police should have to get vaccinated themselves)
So, we have an America where you can murder a protestor and, just like the cops do, say you were "afraid for your life" to get out of taking any kind of responsibility. Meanwhile, the GOP caused treason, were planning to murder congress people in the January insurrection, tried to intimidate people counting votes to the point of planting fake votes and even planning bombs to go off in key states (Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona), and let's not forget how they shouted death threats in Tennessee at pediatricians recommending kids wear masks in school to stay safe. That apparently is just fine, though. Everything is fine...nothing to see here. Just an entire system built on doing whatever it takes to suppress people of color, the differently abled, and women and getting away with it.
Meanwhile, we have a "Democrat" who is, as I thought he might end up being when I voted for Bernie to be the candidate instead, just Trump lite-going along with the status quo. He's a few less calories as Trump but perhaps just as deadly to those who aren't in power. Biden's statement about trusting the justice system is laughable. There's a reason why Biden was elected and it wasn't white people. We all need to come up with candidates that are truly progressive and break these racist systems down.

Two birthday parties of friends ahead on Friday and Saturday. I need much more energy :)
Thursday evening feels still like weekend. Friday is kind of easy at work because you always have a smile on the face because you know that the weekend starts very soon...
I wish you all a good start into the weekend! :-)

One of the many cell phones getting a charge before programming/updating.
When a disaster strikes & the Red Cross begins to establish operations (DRO), they must be able to keep in communications.
Here at DSMC, we programmed thousands of cellular phones for Hurricane Harvey & Irma relief.
