The Celestial is the eighth in the David Oscarson™ series of Limited Edition writing instruments. Produced in five color variations, each will be limited to an aggregate production of 88 pieces (including fountain pens and roller balls).
The Celestial Collection continues in the spirit of artistic mastery and the tradition of Old World craftsmanship by combining the centuries-old technique of Guilloché with the art and expertise of Hard Enamel. Each Collection piece is engraved with multiple levels of Guilloché, then adorned with multiple colors of Hard Enamel. The five breathtaking color pairs featured on the caps stand in bold contrast to the translucent midnight blue hard enamel on the barrels.
The sun and sunburst designs featured on the Celestial cap require multiple levels of engraving; the rays of the sun remain in high relief while the sunburst pattern in the background features occasional omissions in engraving, reflecting heat and solar flares. Most remarkable perhaps is the three-dimensional face of the sun engraved on the tapered and rounded surface of the cap.
The level of difficulty involved in the moon and stars featured on the Celestial barrel equals that employed on the cap. The four phases of the moon (new, quarter, half and full) are outlined in high relief while the stars are represented in various widths and depths. Three different diameters of stars are featured in high relief and three in low relief (above and beneath the midnight blue enamel) as a reflection of the midnight sky.
Two nights ago, I stayed out till 3 Am, doing astronomy, observing various deep sky denizens, including about an hour or so spent flat on my back with a pair of 10x70 binoculars looking for Comet Hartley 2, one of the most difficult-to-spot comets in years...
Finally located it, to my deep satisfaction, but, by that time I was beginning to "see things", including this Auroral apparition, which looked to me like some sort of giant celestial shark, glancing sideways at me ....

An early Italian copy of Jodocus Hondius' celestial globe from the early 1600s at Christie's Auction House. It ended up selling for well over $50,000. I daren't get closer than this.
One of the 108 Temples & Celestial Abodes of Vishnu revered by the Tamil hymns of the Alwars of the 1st millennium CE
Location: Kanchipuram (Tondai Naadu)
Vishnu: Adikesava Perumal (Ashtabhuja Perumaal)
Taayaar: Alarmelmangai (Padmasini)
Theertham:Gajendra Pushkarini
Paasuram :Tirumangaialwar, Peyalwar
Vimaanam:Gaganakriti, Chakrakriti
Travel Base:Chennai, Kanchipuram
Description: This Divyadesam is located in the temple town of Kanchipuram, 1.5 km west of the Varadaraja Perumal temple.
The Divya Desams revered by the Alwars in Vishnu Kanchi are Attigiri (the vast Varadaraja Perumal temple), Ashtabuyakaram, Tiruttankaa, Tiruvelukkai and Tiruvegkaa, while those in Shiva Kanchi are Tiru Oorakam (Ulagalanda Perumaal Koyil) , Tiru Neeragam, Tiruppaatakam, Nilaattingal Tundam, Tirukkaaragam, Tirukkaarvaanam, Tirukkalvanur, Tiruppavalavannam and Parameswara Vinnagaram. The vast Ekambreswarar temple(Prithvi Stalam) revered by the Tevaram hymns, is located in Periya (Shiva) Kanchi, as are the Kamakshiamman and the Kumara Kottam temples.
Deities: The Moolavar here is Adikesava Perumal also known as Gajendravaradan or Chakradharar, in a standing posture facing west. Taayaar here is Alarmelmangai or Padmasini. The image of Adikesava Perumal has 8 arms, with 8 weapons (the discus, sword, a flower, an arrow, the conch, a bow, a shield and a mace). The Utsavar has 4 arms bearing a mace and a spear.
The temple: This temple with a single prakaram covering an area of about an acre has a 3 tiered rajagopuram in its northern entrance and the temple tank Gajendra Pushkarini across from it. There are shrines to Bhuvaraahar, Aandaal, Peyalwar and Hanuman.
Legends: This temple is associated with the legend of Gajendra Moksham (as in the Varadaraja Perumaal Koyil and Kapistalam), where it is believed that a devout elephant Gajendran, who was in the habit of making an offering of lotus flowers from the Ashtabhuja temple tank, to Vishnu was caught by the grip of a crocodile. The pleas of the elephant were answered by Vishnu who vanquished the elephant with his disc. Legend has it that Peyalwar was blessed with a vision of Gajendramoksham at this shrine.
Legend also has it that a vast army of titans sought to upset a ritual being conducted by Bhrahma and upon his request, Vishnu armed with eight different weapons warded off the intruders. Ashtabhuja Perumaal is Vishnu conceived and worshipped thus.
Festivals: Bhramotsavam is celebrated in the month of Chittirai, and Gajendramoksham in Aadi.

Simplicity is beauty,
Purity, divinity;
The virtue of quality
Excels that of quantity.
Beauty that pleases the sense is good,
Beauty and vitue are good,
Seek for things simple but noble,
Virtue alone can ennoble.
True beauty is simply graceful,
The graceful are beautiful,
There's beauty that's deceitful,
Nature itself is beautiful,
Beauty is perfection of form,
Virtue and good sense conforms,
Beautiful things may deform,
But virtue act in good form.

This is the only good shot I could get of these little Celestial Pearl Danio fry in my 30 Gallon tank. They are swimming freely with adults in the tank. Adults are paying no interest in munching on them.
