This bus was built in 1939, and is the longest-serving bus in the country to still be working with its original owner after more than 70 years. Originally a highbridge double decker, she was used mainly on the Ryde - Newport - Cowes services. The body was converted to open top during the winter of 1958/59 for seasonal operation in the Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor area. For many years she was the regular bus on service 44 between Sandown Zoo and Shanklin Esplanade.
New fully roofed to Southern Vectis in July 1939 at Newport for Ryde to Cowes route Bristol K5G/ECW was converted to open top 20 years later working from Shanklin. Carried various liveries and worked various routes before painted in 1960s livery. "The Old Girl" does wedding/private hires and occasional open top routes. She worked all through running day and was a good ride! After all, she is almost 76!
