one of my friends needed a cd design this weekend, I didn't quite finish in time but it was fun to play around a bit.
I've been listening to the new Madonna CD for the last week or so... and I think it's really good. Someone I work with asked me, "Is it like 'old Madonna'?" The things is - we're never going to have 'old Madonna' again. When you listen to the stuff she put out up through the Immaculate Collection, her 'old stuff,' she was a young girl having fun and it comes through in those songs. It's 20-30 years later for those songs and their singer. She's a different person now, so her songs are not necessarily going to sound like 'old Madonna.' Having said that, I think this might be the best thing she's released since 'Ray of Light.' And yes, there's even a touch of 'old Madonna' here. ^.~*
GIRL GONE WILD is just infectious, I can listen to it over 'n over. (The video's kinda hot too, if you haven't checked it out!) I keep reading how great GANG BANG is, but it's probably the one song on here I could do without. Maybe it's meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but I'm not really into the violence/darkness of this song. I'M ADDICTED is fairly mediocre, in my opinion - nothing really revolutionary in the lyrics or the auto-tune. But fortunately it's followed by TURN UP THE RADIO, which to me is about as 'old Madonna' as we're likely to ever get. This is just a great summery sweet song in the vein of Holiday, Cherish and Where's The Party. Just makes you wanna, well, turn up the radio! GIVE ME ALL YOUR LOVIN' is a tad ridiculous... but also ridiculously fun. I love the cheerleading, and even though Nicki Minaj's cameo is fun, she rocks her guest spot even harder on I DON'T GIVE A - probably my favorite song on the record. It's kind of a flipside to Madonna's previous 'rappy' song American Life, which I loved. Only now instead of getting to enjoy her double shot latte she's venting about her divorce, which is as much about our American life today as the things she was celebrating when she was singing about 'living the American dream.' And Nicki Minaj blows it away, too. On the more tender LOVE SPENT you might wonder what happened with the marriage to Guy Richie, but there's no doubt you feel Madonna's desire to be loved. Even with it's metaphorical lyrics, it's a really beautiful song. SUPERSTAR and the quirky B-DAY SONG (from the bonus disk) remind me of the True Blue era, just lovey dovey fun. SOME GIRLS isn't really a highlight for me, but it's ok. I prefer I'M A SINNER, with its cheeky "I'm never going to be perfect" attitude - always fun when Madonna takes on religion. But I don't get the feeling she's being disrespectful, just sayin' "Don't be so uptight." MASTERPIECE is nothing short of its title - the standout ballad in this collection. Love it. FALLING FREE felt a little Judy Collins/Joni Mitchell to me the first few times I heard it, but a closer listen to the lyrics won me over. Yep, Madonna's got a heart 'n soul.
All in all, it's a very good album that you can listen to over 'n over. Maybe not Madonna's absolute best ever, but she's still deservedly holding on to her royal title. To quote Nicki Minaj, "There's only one queen... and that's Madonna."
So what do you think? Do you love it?

The Library has a large CD collection. These drawers hold CDs divided by genre, such as popular, regge, show tunes, world music, folk, jazz, classical, and more. Right next to the CD shelves is the Library's listening station, where patrons can listen to a sample of almost every song in the Library's collection before they take it home.

I can't actually remember when I ordered this CD, but it obviously took forever to get here. I forgive all, with such a happy note on it. Previously, Beefy drew me a rabbit.
The same technique and the previous shot but I underexposed the shot, I prefer the colours but still not quite right.
