There are 30 species and over 20,000 cultivars of dahlias. Those cultivars are categorized based on size, flower pattern, and how they resemble other flowers (like waterlilies, anemones, and cactus blooms). The large decorative types and cactus types are among the most popular, and many varieties are used in cut flower gardens.
Caracals are native to Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, and arid areas of Pakistan and northwestern India. In Africa, there was a problem with many people keeping them as pets although in adulthood, they do not behave like domesticated felines and often find themselves in South African rescues as a result.
Whilst classified as endangered in the Asia, they are hunted as a problem animal in southern Africa. Caracals are categorized as Least Concern (LC) on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List.

National Geographic has categorized Cerro Campanario as one of the 8 best views in the world! From the world I cannot confirm, but in the Andean Lakes Region it certainly is.
With an altitude of just over a thousand meters above sea level, this hill offers a panoramic view of the region's mountains and lakes.

Anytime you upload your photo to Flickr they immediately identify, categorize and tag your photo’s information before they put it in the system.
You can search Flickr by just input the text description of the image you want. To narrow your search result you can also set your criteria by the tone, shadow, DoF, Patterns, Orientations, size, date taken and the content type. Of cause most of them are copyrighted, you can use it for personal only, even for other Text To Image generators sometimes your have to pay a royalty.
The calandiva is biologically called the Hybrid of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana, being a plant originating in the Netherlands, from the island of Madagascar, but widely cultivated in several regions around the world. It does not have a large size, reaching no more than 25 centimeters in height. It is categorized as a flower, very beautiful indeed and can be grown both indoors and outdoors.
Despite having a very delicate appearance, calandiva is very resistant. It has a very thick foliage and always green in color, with wavy edges. The plant's flowers always appear at the end of autumn and remain alive until the end of winter and when spring begins, it starts a new cycle and the budding flowers begin to be exchanged.
Here in Brazil, depending on where the calandiva is going to be cultivated, it will receive different popular names, the most common being the flor da fortuna, kalanchoe and papa's flower. You will also find an incredible diversity of flower colors. They range from red, orange, yellow, pink and white. The petals are very simple and can be double or triple, depending on the formation of the plant.

The Bussaco Palace Hotel, is categorized as one of the most beautiful and historic hotels in the world and is surrounded by a forest of about 105 hectares (called “Mata Nacional do Bussaco”), where the visitors can find one of the best dendrological collections in Europe, with about 250 species of trees and shrubs. Widely known in scientific circles, in recent years, the Bussaco Forest has opened up to the simple tourist and to families who, without specialized knowledge, seek a place of leisure, nature, culture, history and fun.
So where does this love of ice and silver blades come from? I go looking for it and discover that there is even a schaatshistoricus in Holland, an historian whose specialism is the history of ice skating. His name is Marnix Koolhaas, and he willingly and kindly provides me with information.
Ice skating as a popular pastime
According to Marnix Koolhaas, one of the reasons for the Dutch enthusiasm for ice skating lies in the Reformation: “When Calvinism was on the rise in Holland in the 16th century, many Catholic festivals were abolished, including Carnival. Ice skating took the place of these festivals. People felt free and independent on the ice, and were able to escape for a short time from the strict standards and laws. The festivals then started taking place on the ice.”
And Marnix told me something else: “In Holland, there was what was referred to as verzuiling, the ´pillarising´ of society – categorizing citizens under separate so-called ´pillars´. Both private and social life were played out in a person´s own ‘pillar’ (Protestant, Catholic, Social-Democratic or liberal). This is why, even today, there is still a Catholic football club in Amsterdam. Only ice skating was never pillarised. All are equal on the ice – regardless of which religious community or political party they belong to. And so there’s no Catholic ice skating club either.” You have fun on the ice and feel free – that makes sense to me. There’s another reason, however, why the Dutch have ice skating in their blood. Not only can you do pirouettes on skates, but you can also cover longdistances

There are five species of red-billed hornbills generally recognized now, but all five were once considered conspecific. Some authorities still categorize the group as Tockus erythrorhynchus with the remaining four as its subspecies.
If considered as a species of its own, this would be the Tockus kempi. (Western Red-billed Hornbill)

One of the two Avadavats found in India, one being Red and other being Green. These are endemic to India and are incredibly rare to sight. The birds are fast disappearing due to rampant wild life trade of these birds where it is known as Green Waxbill. The birds are currently categorized as "Vulnerable" in IUCN List and found only in a few places across the country.
The birds are around 10 cms long and always forage in flocks. A fellow birder found them quite by chance and we made a beeline to that place to get a glimpse of this beauty. The bird was foraging in open fields and it was impossible to get a view of it from far. We started walking very slowly and carefully only to see them appear right in front of our eyes and fly away into the bush.

This cactus last year:
***
My Christmas Cactus Red does well in bright and indirect light. These cheery wintertime flowers brighten up indoor spaces and look beautiful when placed in a brightly colored pot. The flowers have brightly colored downward-facing petals. Christmas cactus comes in a variety of different colors including, yellow, red, white, pink, salmon, and bi-color.
Christmas Cactus Red will adapt to low light conditions, but the plant will produce blooms more readily if exposed to bright light. The flowers are bright red and appear prolifically when in these conditions and when exposed to room temperatures, anywhere between 65 - 75 degrees F.
The plants do like to stay on the dryer side. Christmas Cactus Red looks amazing during the holiday season adding the traditional red color with the foliage a bright green. The Christmas Cactus Red is also a cute gift for a hostess when attending a party or gathering. They are a great addition to any household because they are easy to take care of and add a touch of color.
Light Requirement of Red Christmas Cactus:
The best place for your Christmas cactus to flourish is indoors. Christmas Cactus Red does best with bright indirect to bright direct light. Eastern exposure is ideal, a western window with a curtain works as long as the plant does not receive too much direct light. Too much direct sunlight can burn its leaves, so keep the Christmas Cactus in an appropriate area to avoid this. Protect them from cold drafts and extreme temperatures, 65-75 degrees F is recommended.
Watering Red Christmas Cactus:
Water weekly. Remove plants from any decorative foil wrappers if necessary. Place the pot with drainage holes in the sink so it will be able to drain. After watering let it sit for five minutes to drain. Depending on how hot and dry the environment is you may need to water more often. Optimum humidity is 50-60%. Once all flowers are gone withhold water for up to 6 weeks. Begin watering again when new growth appears.
Fertilizing Red Christmas Cactus:
Do not fertilize your Christmas Cactus while it is in bloom, the blooming period is from the beginning of September and runs all the way to February. Once the flowers fade and drop, fertilize with a blooming houseplant fertilizer. New foliage should begin to appear about six weeks after blooming ceases.
Best Growing Soil for Red Christmas Cactus:
Christmas Cactus Red does best in a soil that provides optimum aeration & drainage, with improved moisture retention. Any mix that contains sand is best because it is optimal for drainage. Drainage is key because it helps prevent rotting which is a common concern with cactus plants that are watered too much.
History and introduction of Red Christmas Cactus:
Christmas Cactus, also known as a hybrid Schlumbergera buckleyi, is a member of the family Cactaceae. They are categorized by their flattened stems and are grown for their colorful flowers that bloom indoor. It is native to Brazil and it grows in the rainforest, on top of trees or shrubs, or sometimes in shady places among rocks.

Fonthill Castle, Doylestown, Pennsylvania, was the home of the archaeologist and tile maker Henry Chapman Mercer. Built between 1908 and 1912 by Mercer himself and a team of workers, it is a large house and not a castle, and an early example of poured-in-place concrete. Fonthill defies any classification or categorization into architectural styles or modes.
The estate of Fonthill is one of the pioneer examples of using reinforced concrete as a building medium.
Fonthill is described by Dr. Mercer as coming from various sources, some of which are Byzantine Churches in Greece, Mount St. Michel in France, a Turkish house in Salonica, and the paintings of Gerard Dow.

Got Imagination?: A short post today, an unusual photograph. A natural landscape? Definitely not. An urban photograph? I don't think so. But I don't think categorization is the important point here. However, as you look at the photograph, what do you see? What does it remind you of? What do you imagine? #etbtsy
Photographed two Dark-eyed Juncos having a spat over some seeds on the ground at our friends cottage on Kenogamissi Lake in the Township of Doyle in Northeastern Ontario Canada
Sixty-six percent of the global population of Dark-eyed Junco breeds in the boreal forest of North America. The Slate-colored form nests throughout the boreal region, from the shores of the Bering Sea to the Atlantic, and south through the Appalachians. Other forms nest throughout the western mountains to northern Baja California and west Texas. The breeding system of the Dark-eyed Junco is categorized as "social monogamy." Although birds of both sexes tend to have only one "social mate" with which they nest and defend a territory, they frequently copulate with neighboring birds. As a result, males raise many young that are not their own. Females that lose their mates quickly re-pair, often with neighboring males who may sire broods with their new mates while also rearing young with their original mates. Such males rarely care for their new mates' original young, even though some likely are their own offspring. The nest is usually on the ground, often on a sloping bank, and concealed under a protruding rock, among roots, under a log, or at the base of plant stems, but occasionally in a tree. Usually four eggs are laid, with larger clutches more frequent early in the season and smaller clutches late. The young are able to run before they can fly, if necessary, because their legs develop quickly. Southern populations normally attempt to raise two broods per year. Nest predation, particularly by rodents, is very high, and overall productivity is highly correlated with rodent density.

......maybe not so little.
The Strata Center at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, designed by Frank Gehry.
Gehry is a world renowned....and sometimes controversial.....architect, whose style defies categorization.
There seems to be no unifying theme, and often his structures appear to be collapsing in on themselves.
And they are fascinating, imo.
ps....the back side is even more spectacular. So is inside.
But this was the best vantage point to try and capture the whole thing.
I'm on a bit of a whirlwind here lately......a good one, but busy.
I spent 5 days visiting friends in Boston. We walked everywhere, for literally miles and miles.
The last afternoon, my friend had "busy work" to do, so I went over to Cambridge to see this structure and the MIT campus.
Got home last night, had appointments all day today, and am leaving Friday for another 3 days.
In short......I'm way behind on viewing your photos. I'll be catching up slowly, as I get the time.
Hope all is well.

The Retezat National Park (Romanian: Parcul Naţional Retezat) is a protected area located in the Retezat Mountains in Hunedoara county, Romania. Founded in 1935, it is the oldest national park in the country and categorized as a category II IUCN national park.
Retezat is particularly notable for its biodiverse flora, with over one thousand species of plants present within the park. It is also home to some of the last remaining pristine old-growth forests in Europe. Despite its protected status, recent decades saw an increase in damaging activities such as logging and sheep-grazing in the park, as well as threats to its status as public propriety.
In 1979, UNESCO included the park in the Man and the Biosphere Program international network of biosphere reserves, while in 1993 it was included by the International Union for Conservation of Nature among its demonstration projects on sustainable rural development. In 2008 it was granted the European Diploma of Protected Areas.
This picture was taken in the North Side of the Retezat National Park, in Stanisoara Valey, a gorgeous Jurassic like area.

“When I was a little girl, everything in the world fell into either of these two categories: wrong or right. Black or white. Now that I am an adult, I have put childish things aside and now I know that some things fall into wrong and some things fall into right. Some things are categorized as black and some things are categorized as white. But most things in the world aren't either! Most things in the world aren't black, aren't white, aren't wrong, aren't right, but most of everything is just different. And now I know that there's nothing wrong with different, and that we can let things be different, we don't have to try and make them black or white, we can just let them be grey. And when I was a child, I thought that God was the God who only saw black and white. Now that I am no longer a child, I can see, that God is the God who can see the black and the white and the grey, too, and He dances on the grey! Grey is okay.”

The Kori Bustard is Africa's heaviest flying bird and can weigh up to 19kg. It is a land bird with a long neck and long feet with three toes.
They are ground dwellers, hence the name bustard, meaning birds that walk.
Because of their weight they fly only when necessary. They may even be categorized as one of the few large flightless birds like ostriches and emus.
With a long life span they breed slowly and tend to remain in the same area for as long as the food source is sufficient , if not, they migrate as most animals do.
Ferruginous Hawk - This species is the largest hawk in North America. I have heard it said by birder friends that they would not be surprised to see this hawk re-categorized as some kind of eagle sub species. Ferruginous Hawks are often seen hunting on the ground in agricultural fields during the Winter months.

Grape hyacinths (also known as muscari) are small spring-blooming bulbs, so named because of their tight little flower clusters that resemble grapes. Although the Muscari genus was previously categorized in the Liliaceae family (which also contains true hyacinths), it is now considered to be part of the Asparagaceae, or asparagus family.
The Scott County Courthouse in Winchester was completed in 1885 at a cost of $35,500. Designed by the St. Louis architectural firm of James Stewart, the building has elements of the Greek Revival, Italianate, and Federal architectural styles. In 1977, an Illinois Department of Conservation historic preservation report remarked that the courthouse "is so uniquely eclectic as to defy categorization."
Square sections with a single rounded-arch window on each story are placed on the building's corners, while the remaining portions of the sides feature several similar windows spaced closely together. A stone stringcourse visually separates the stories. Above the entrance rises a three-story tower topped with an exceptional onion dome. In 1917, the county converted the tower into a clock tower.
The courthouse sits catty-corner to the northeast of Winchester's town square. It is the largest building within the Winchester Historic District listed in 1979 on the National Register of Historic Places. The district includes 438 buildings, of which 273 are contributing, including this courthouse.
Winchester is the seat of Scott County. Located in West Central Illinois, the city is part of the Jacksonville Micropolitan Statistical Area. The estimated population of Winchester in 2019 was 1,467.

Mourning Dove, Zenaida macroura.
You’ve seen this dove from Both Sides Now.
NYTimes this morning reports that Texans are powerless and irate, due to the state-wide ice storm. Some have been irate for quite a while. This peaceful dove should not be categorized that way. The photographer, however, is both crabby about a 2nd day without electricity, and grateful for a working gas fireplace and stove, and for the hospitality of friends. Windmills in the North Sea work fine under worse conditions, but ERCOT did not plan for what now turns out to be the worst case.

Despite being categorized as a shorebird, the Long-billed Curlew breeds in the grasslands of the Great Plains and Great Basin. Then, more shorebird like, they spend winter in wetlands, tidal estuaries, mudflats, flooded fields, and beaches.
Third in my shorebird series, we found this guy/gal foraging in grasslands just outside Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge near Ogden, Utah.
Technical note: Shot very early in the morning in pretty low light. Fortunately, this curlew was moving fairly slowly, and I was able to get some sharp shots at 1/250.

We joined a small local photography group this month. They started the season off with the theme “vegetables”. Some may argue that these tomatoes are technically fruits, but nutritionists categorize them as vegetables. Since I was inundated with delicious varieties from my neighbours and friends, I took an hour to set up this Still Life in my studio before chopping them up! This was my submission as well as the red onion I posted previously. Both were taken using natural light coming from a window. Although I love connecting with online friends, it is great to share ideas with local friends again. This year I tried dehydrating Roma tomatoes to take on our camping trips. That worked well. I plan to use mine for a morning omelette. I am doing a bit of supply work at nearby schools to make a bit of extra money to pay for the gas to go on our next road trip. Hubby and I have been watching a few tutorials on You Tube with tips on landscape photography from the professionals. Soon we will put all that to practice. We shall see all the fruits of our labor when we are settled into our next home away from home in the wilderness. I shall be in and out for the fall! I do hope everyone embraces the new season with their cameras ready!

"The original Tide chandelier is part of a larger body of work based on the collection of 'man made' debris washed up on a specific stretch of Kent coastline at Dungeness. After several years the stockpile of collected material was sorted and categorized and several individual pieces of work were produced. In order to keep up with demand my walking and collecting expanded to most of the British south coast and the Dutch coastline.
The Tide chandelier is created from clear and translucent objects of all colours, primarily made of plastic. Each individual element is different in shape and form, yet they come together to produce one perfect sphere. The sphere evokes the shape of the moon whose force created the tide that washed these items ashore. This spherical display of objects could be seen as a celebration of modern manufacturing or a negative display of waste carelessly disposed of in the sea. Both interpretations have a link to human behaviour."

A bakery is an establishment that produces and sells flour-based food baked in an oven such as bread, cookies, cakes, pastries, and pies. Some retail bakeries are also categorized as cafés, serving coffee and tea to customers who wish to consume the baked goods on the premises. Confectionery items are also made in most bakeries throughout the world.
Baked goods have been around for thousands of years. The art of baking was developed early during the Roman Empire. It was a highly famous art as Roman citizens loved baked goods and demanded them frequently for important occasions such as feasts and weddings. Because of the fame of the art of baking, around 300 BC, baking was introduced as an occupation and respectable profession for Romans. Bakers began to prepare bread at home in an oven, using mills to grind grain into flour for their breads. The demand for baked goods persisted, and the first bakers' guild was established in 168 BC in Rome. The desire for baked goods promoted baking throughout Europe and expanded into eastern parts of Asia. Bakers started baking bread and other goods at home and selling them on the streets.
This trend became common, and soon, baked products were sold in streets of Rome, Germany, London, and more. A system of delivering baked goods to households arose as the demand increased significantly. This prompted bakers to establish places where people could purchase baked goods. The first open-air market for baked goods was established in Paris, and since then bakeries have become a common place to purchase delicious goods and to socialize. By the colonial era, bakeries were commonly viewed in this way.

Fathom Five National Marine Park is a National Marine Conservation Area in the Georgian Bay part of Lake Huron, Ontario, Canada, that seeks to protect and display shipwrecks and lighthouses, and conserve freshwater ecosystems. The many shipwrecks make the park a popular scuba diving destination, and glass bottom boat tours leave Tobermory regularly, allowing tourists to see the shipwrecks without having to get wet. Many visitors camp at nearby Bruce Peninsula National Park and use the park as a base to explore Fathom Five and the surrounding area during the day.Fathom Five also contains numerous islands, notably Flowerpot Island, which has rough camping facilities, marked trails, and its namesake flowerpots, outlying stacks of escarpment cliff that stand a short distance from the island, most with vegetation (including trees) still growing on them.Established in 1987, the park represented a pioneering departure for the national park system, which had centered on land-based conservation until then. Its designation as a National Marine Park foresaw the creation of others, though nomenclature for such units would morph into National Marine Conservation Areas, leaving Fathom Five as the only National Marine Park. Despite its unique name, it is categorized as an NMCA, and is deemed the first one in the country.
I hope you enjoy my photos as much as I enjoyed taking them. Many thanks to everyone who chooses to leave a comment, or add this image to their favorites, your kindness is much appreciated.

Fragments of 15th century frescoes are preserved inside.
Hateg region contains several striking old stone masonry churches built in Romanian villages as Orthodox churches but with Roman-Catholic architectural influences, testimony to the complex history of Transylvania.
Apart from its architecture [categorized by some as Romanesque or as a local syntheses of Romanesque and Byzantine architectures] the church is remarkable by the ubiquitous use of spolia from the ruins of the nearby capital of the Roman province of Dacia called Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa, in the form of stamped bricks and various carved stones, some with Roman epigraphy. Presently it is considered to be the oldest Romanian Orthodox church building still in use today.

Olana State Historic Site was the home of Frederic Edwin Church (1826–1900), one of the major figures in the Hudson River School of landscape painting. The centerpiece of Olana is an eclectic villa composed of many styles, difficult to categorize, which overlooks parkland and a working farm designed by the artist. The residence has a wide view of the Hudson River valley, the Catskill Mountains

The names tortoise, turtle and terrapin apply to different groups of turtles in the USA, but other countries either place them all in the same category or categorize them differently. All have the characteristic shell which is either made of bone or cartilage. There are over 250 species of turtles worldwide.
The sand tiger shark (Carcharias taurus), gray nurse shark, spotted ragged-tooth shark or blue-nurse sand tiger, is a species of shark that inhabits subtropical and temperate waters worldwide. It inhabits the continental shelf, from sandy shorelines (hence the name sand tiger shark) and submerged reefs to a depth of around 191 m (627 ft).
They dwell in the waters of Japan, Australia, South Africa, and the east coasts of North and South America. The sand tiger shark also inhabited the Mediterranean, however it was last seen there in 2003 and is presumed extinct in the region. Despite its common names, it is not closely related to either the tiger shark (Galeocerdo cuvier) or the nurse shark (Ginglymostoma cirratum).
Despite its fearsome appearance and strong swimming ability, it is a relatively placid and slow-moving shark with no confirmed human fatalities. This species has a sharp, pointy head, and a bulky body. The sand tiger's length can reach 3.2 m (10.5 ft) but is normally 2.2–2.5 m in length. They are grey with reddish-brown spots on their backs. Shivers (groups) have been observed to hunt large schools of fish. Their diet consists of bony fish, crustaceans, squid, skates and other sharks.
Unlike other sharks, the sand tiger can gulp air from the surface, allowing it to be suspended in the water column with minimal effort. During pregnancy, the most developed embryo will feed on its siblings, a reproductive strategy known as intrauterine cannibalism i.e. "embryophagy" or, more colorfully, adelphophagy—literally "eating one's brother". The sand tiger is categorized as critically endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List. It is the most widely kept large shark in public aquariums owing to its tolerance for captivity.

Many orchids are endangered, mostly due to habitat destruction and over-collection. The IUCN has assessed 880 species of orchids, and categorizes more than 500 of them as Vulnerable or Endangered—and of those, 162 are Critically Endangered. All orchids are protected by CITES. It is illegal, whether for profit or pleasure, knowingly or unknowingly, to transport orchids across international borders without the proper paperwork.
San Diego Zoo Global assists in the conservation of orchids. The San Diego Zoo is a Designated Plant Rescue Center. The Orchid House, with more than 900 orchid taxa, provides an appropriate environment for plants that have been confiscated from the illegal orchid trade. Zoo horticulturists grow, propagate, and share orchids with other botanical gardens.
this child is probably a descendant of Helena's clan, a very prolific mitochondrial haplo group which arrived in Europe 20,000 years ago. There were seven main clans which geneticist Bryan Sykes categorized in his book "The Seven Daughters of Eve.'
Helena's group lived at a time when the ice age was at it's most severe. They hunted animals including the woolly mammoth which eventually disappeared as the climate warmed approx 12-10000 years ago.
Some scientists are trying to get viable DNA from frozen mammoths with the hope of cloning the lost species. ( why! poor things). It has not been successful yet.

This most amazing life size replica is at the Royal BC Museum. Russia also has the remains of a frozen baby mammoth (on loan to BC Museum last year) which still had vegetation in it's stomach. If you google Woolly Mammoth, a photo of the BC museum model will always come up.
The child is not a replica lol!

A razorbill couple seemingly arguing about the desirability of the nesting site. I can imagine the one on the right saying "This is the best nesting site you can find? Look, it's on a steep slope, and has poop all over the rocks". The other one replies: "Well, the puffins got here first and took all the best sites!"
Well, in the end I'm sure they did very well. The species is increasing and is categorized least concern.
Thanks for viewing, and I hope your week is going great!

Zebras are categorized into three primary species: the mountain zebra, plains zebra, and the elusive Grévy's zebra. Each species exhibits unique features, adapted to different environments across Southern, West, and East Africa.
At La Florida, Km 18, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. The Multicolored Tanager (Chlorochrysa nitidissima) is ENDEMIC to the mountains of Colombia. As of 2010, the IUCN categorized this bird as vulnerable (VU). It was a commonly encountered bird in its small range, but the loss of habitat is causing a severe decline in populations. The Multicolored Tanager is found mainly from 1300 to 2200 meters above sea level in the interior of wet forests.
