World Diabetes Day is the primary global awareness campaign focusing on diabetes mellitus and is held on November 14 each year.

“Don't let yourself fall, you gotta pick yourself right up and strive to do better and be better! Think positive. Don't let the Diabetes control you! You control the Diabetes! Be strong because someways might be tough but you are tougher!”

― Tiffany Danczak

I have been on the borderline since last year and since then I always try to take care of what I eat and watch over my daily routine. I always carry this device with me just in case. This photo is one shot, handheld with two table lamps for lighting. Less than 3" including negative space. For Macro Mondays "EDC"

Found this perch late one night at the hotel and had to run back down to grab the tripod. Some moments are just this good.

The Parthenon (/ˈpɑːrθəˌnɒn, -nən/; Ancient Greek: Παρθενών; Greek: Παρθενώνας, Parthenónas) is a former temple, on the Athenian Acropolis, Greece, dedicated to the goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their patron. Construction began in 447 BC when the Athenian Empire was at the peak of its power. It was completed in 438 BC although decoration of the building continued until 432 BC. It is the most important surviving building of Classical Greece, generally considered the zenith of the Doric order. Its decorative sculptures are considered some of the high points of Greek art. The Parthenon is regarded as an enduring symbol of Ancient Greece, Athenian democracy and Western civilization, and one of the world's greatest cultural monuments. To the Athenians who built it, the Parthenon and other Periclean monuments of the Acropolis, were seen fundamentally as a celebration of Hellenic victory over the Persian invaders and as a thanksgiving to the gods for that victory. The Greek Ministry of Culture is currently carrying out a program of selective restoration and reconstruction to ensure the stability of the partially ruined structure. It's like all this time

I've been waitin' for you with my open eyes

Scannin' the room for a peace of mind

You look so good in this light

It's like suddenly all that's important is in front of me

Already know what we're gonna be

salt lake The lake lies at an elevation of 4,718 m, and has a surface area of 1,870 square kilometres. It is the highest salt lake in the world, and largest salt lake in the Tibet Autonomous Region. However, it is not the largest salt lake in the Tibetan Plateau. That title belongs to KokoNor མཚོ་སྔོན་ མཚོ་ཁྲི ་ཤོར་རྒྱལ་མོ་ (almost twice the size of Namtso). Namtso has five uninhabited islands of reasonable size, in addition to one or two rocky outcrops. The islands have been used for spiritual retreat by pilgrims who walk over the lake's frozen surface at the end of winter, carrying their food with them. They spend the summer there, unable to return to shore again until the water freezes the following winter. This practice is no longer permitted under the Communist Chinese regime in Tibet. www.footprinttravelguides.com/c/2848/tibet/&Action=pr...

Macro Mondays: Everyday Carry

"This week, set your wallet/keys/phone aside and check your pockets or purse for the lip balm, pocket knife, lighter, flashlight, inhaler, multitool, floss, whistle, etc. that's always with you when you walk out the door."

For me this would also be glasses and a book, good thing I usually carry a big purse! :) Sometimes when you are waiting at an appointment or being on your lunch break it is good to have a book to read.

Thanks to all for your visit! HMM!

This is the nesting season for these little creatures and they are quite busy carrying little blades of grass for their nest. They fly like 40-50 meters with the grass blade, then perch for a short while, recover their strength and again carry it with them. I suppose the weight is a lot for these little birds which are less than 10 cms tall.

Thanks in advance for your views and feedback.

St. Nicholas Church on the Water. Kyiv

The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker on the Waters is an Orthodox church on the Dnieper near the Podol embankment in Kyiv. It’s the first and only temple in Ukraine, located in the water area. Its height is 23 meters. A 15-meter bridge approaches the church from the shore. The church can accommodate about 50 people

At the beginning of the 20th century, there was a Russian-style chapel of St. Nicholas on the Kyiv river pier, built at the expense of the city's water rescue society, and destroyed in the 1930s. Temples on the waters are traditionally considered monuments to the dead rivermen and sailors.

The construction of the church began on December 19, 2003 on the day of St. Nicholas and was carried out at the expense of the Ukrrichflot company. The authors of the project are Yuri Lositsky and Elena Miroshnichenko.

In 2004, the church of St. Nicholas was built on alluvial soil. The consecration took place on July 7, 2004, on the feast of the Nativity of John the Baptist, by Vladimir (Sabodan), Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine.

The icon of St. Nicholas, which is over 200 years old, is kept in the temple.

The shape of the temple slightly resembles a candle of a flowering chestnut tree.

You Are Not Alone

This eagle certainly did dare and carries away it's prize.

A revisit to these guys is high on my list of things to do in 2018. It was certainly one of my best days out in 2017 despite the poor light conditions.

A true unquestionable master of the skies the magnificent white tailed eagle. Seen here making off with it's catch, the UK's largest most powerful and arguably most beautiful bird .

The eagles are a fabulous advert for conservation and a great blueprint for the reintroduction of other former native species.

Many thanks to all those who take the time to comment on my photos. It is truly appreciated.

my little airplant, last June, produced a spectacular flower and now, exactly one year on ... sure enough, the plant's a double. I'm not sure what the baby will do ... split off, or just carry on attached to mum.

Time will tell.

SARDENYA 2024

Spiaggia La Pelosa is widely regarded as one of the most spectacular beaches in Sardinia, Italy, located near the town of Stintino. It is renowned for its incredibly fine, white sand and its shallow, crystal-clear turquoise waters, giving it a Caribbean look and feel. The landscape is dominated by the emblematic Torre della Pelosa, a 16th-century Aragonese watchtower situated on a small rocky islet just offshore. Due to its great popularity and to protect its delicate sand, access to the beach is limited during peak season and requires a prior reservation. Furthermore, the use of a straw mat underneath towels is mandatory to prevent the sand from being carried away.

Despite being a substantial village before the Norman Conquest, the description of Alwalton in the Doomsday Book makes no mention of a church. However, they were certain that there was a church a century later because the earliest parts of the present building date back from 1170 and were clearly the extension of an existing building.

This 1170 work (the first two bays of the north aisle with their solid piers, round arches and skilfully carved leaf volute capitals) is not only the most ancient part of the church, it is also the most beautiful.

During the early 13th century the church was considerably extended. The tower was built and the nave lengthened by the insertion of an extra bay at the west end and widened by adding a south aisle. It seems likely that the wonderful carving around the west door was also carried out at this time but it could have been earlier, having been moved from another part of the church.

With the completion of the 13th century work the church became much as we see it today, except for the transepts and chancel. But things might have been very different if plans to rebuild the church around 1300 had been successful. At that time work began on the construction of a central tower along with a high vaulted chancel and vaulted transept. Inexplicably, after about 30 years, the work ceased. The partly completed tower was taken down and only the chancel and transepts remain from this grandiose plan.

During the next 500 years there was only one major alteration and this took place during the 15th century. The nave walls were raised to form a clearstory and the church was re-roofed. Adding the clearstory involved building new arches at the crossing and it was at this time that the 13th century vaulting in the chancel and transepts was destroyed. Traces of the vaulting can still be seen on several walls but we can only imagine how splendid the building would now be if this magnificent ceiling had survived.

By the middle of the 19th century the church had fallen in to a sorry state and extensive repairs were begun in 1840
